Welcome Craig Counsell!

In News And Rumors by Rice Cube39 Comments

So the Cubs did their thing they do once every decade where they dump a sitting manager for an obvious upgrade. Here’s the intro press conference, enjoy!

Here’s our episode where we reacted appropriately to the news last week (dying laughing)

Lots of fun little quotes and snippets as we are at the QO and Rule 5 rostering deadline

Coomer, who is also close with Ross, recently told 670 The Score, the team’s flagship radio station: β€œThat was probably the most upset that I’ve seen Tom about our team, and understandably so. They were expecting to go to the playoffs. They did not. Things are going to happen when your owner is that upset.”

Hope that means he’s mad enough to go reasonably nuts this offseason

So much hedging but it’s sort of optimistic hedging

Ricketts downplayed the idea that Counsell’s arrival signals the beginning of a flurry of big moves. β€œNo, I don’t think it changes” the calculus this offseason, Ricketts said, because β€œJed’s going to try to do what he can to get the best team on the field. He would do that for whatever manager we had.” This isn’t lowering expectations as much as highlighting everything Counsell sees in the Cubs: the prospects to make blockbuster trades, a solid major-league foundation to build around and the resources to sign franchise players. From the top down, the message is that the status quo is unacceptable.

    Rice Cube,

MLB is basically just a contestant on the price is right, moving the dial and looking back at the audience every once in a while to see how they react (dying laughing)

    berselius,

After 2016 I think I’m still playing with house money when it comes to my enjoyment of the Cubs and MLB so I don’t mind some experimentation, this seems like a bit too much too soon though, but also it sounds like since they weren’t always using the full clock anyway, it doesn’t matter too much, so we likely won’t notice any significant changes. The thing about injuries is intriguing and I wonder if someone smarter at BPro or FanGraphs has tried to dig into it.

On Tuesday night, two days before the vote, three A’s fans wearing T-shirts that read “SELL” sat near Fisher at the restaurant at the Live! By Loews hotel where the owners meetings were held. As Fisher stood up to leave a few minutes later, one fan said, loud enough for Fisher to hear: “Keep the A’s in Oakland. Do the right thing.”

Walking away, Fisher muttered under his breath: “I am doing the right thing.”

That last bit reminds me of the Joe Kelly gif where he makes the “nyah” face. Fisher sucks.
