The Quest to Score More Than One Run

64

I got nothing here, just needed a new thread probably. By all rights this team should be capable of scoring better, but everyone is playing like crap so that even if they do get baserunners, none of them are coming home. Anyway, I’m sure we’ll address this when we pod or whatever, and perhaps they’ll score some run(s) against the Giants, who even knows anymore?

  1. That really was a play I wish Wisdom would have given him the Buster Posey treatment, because he completely smothered home plate.

  2. Rice Cube,

That’s tough to say. It beat him to the catcher, but it was off in the LH batter’s box. So the catcher leaned over to catch it while partially blocking the plate, then slid his shin guard over to completely cover the plate as Wisdom slid in feet first and then applied the tag. It was quite a lot all at once.

  3. For all the talk about enforcing rules, the rule that a ball is a strike if it touches a batter as he strikes at it wasn’t called there, and it was obvious.

  4. I get that the options are limited, but how many times does Neris get to lose the strike zone and blow a save before he’s removed from closing duties?

  5. Perkins,

It doesn’t seem like he has varied in the slightest all year, it has just caught up to him lately. He relies on chased pitches and the element of surprise when the ball actually finds the zone. His flyball luck is gone with the wind blowing even a little out.

  6. Given they don’t actually have many short term assets to sell and there’s a decent pipeline, I’d be trading for Danny Jansen and a late inning reliever or two.

  7. Also not to pick on Neris too much, but I wonder how much his reputation/respect as a clubhouse leader is tarnished by his performance this year. Athletes tend to be like soldiers in that it’s tough to respect or follow someone who can’t get the job done.

  8. The guy this team really needs, and who should have been part of it independent of any other roster decisions, is Bryce Harper.

  9. Rice Cube,

Yeah I know there’s no chance in hell. They just really could use that combination of talent, fire, and swagger that Harper provides and not many players have it all.

Their support of fascists will always be the worst, but pinching the purse strings when Harper was a free agent is the second worst thing the Rickettses have done in my book.

  11. berselius,

I would also have loved to see Yu Darvish with this team the past few seasons both for his abilities/production and general excellence as a human being.

Man, Heyward really messed up a lot of the FO’s plans by falling off a cliff his first season with the Cubs. But also they’re a big market team and have no excuse for failing to operate like one.
