In News And Rumors by dmick8988 Comments

Not really sure what to think about the news at this point, but Dempster doesn't know about any trade.

The Cubs are waiting on Dempster's approval.

two months of Dempster for five-plus years of Delgado — too good to be true, isn’t it? that’s three times what i would have expected. Theo and Jed are good but not that good… right?

That’s Dempster’s Foundation twitter. Dempster doesn’t tweet from it. I doubt his foundation is kept in the loop on trades (dying laughing)

if this comes off… and then they dig up Zach Lee for Garza…. i’m going to have to consider 2013 season tickets.

    @ GW:
It’s a little more than I expected, but we don’t know what money is going to the Braves. Or for that matter if the deal will even happen. But yes, assuming it does happen and it’s Dempster plus $6 million for Delgado, then I’m pretty happy. I think the Cubs probably got a little more than Dempster is worth, but I don’t think it’s so much that I’m surprised.

Demp refusing to talk about any deal, just told Gordo: “Someone said it on the internet. It must be true.”

Whoops. Uh, that was a “vacated” joke. (But the trade does not seem to have been completed.)

he’s saying his “vacated” tweet was a joke. right?

So Dempster has had to have told Thoyer that Atlanta was okay at some point right? And now he is turning it down?

honestly, i wouldn’t be surprised if the teams have agreed but they haven’t got Dempster to clear it or informed him yet. Sounds like this thing leaked really fucking quick. Probably a big headache for Theo

he wouldn’t be asked until there’s a firm deal to ask him about, i’d imagine.

That’s generally how it goes. Team completes trade, team asks player with NTC if he will accept, teams informs other team if he accepts or declines. Trade was probably completed and Dempster wants to think about it or hadn’t been informed yet. Who knows?

    @ GW:
It’s a lot more than one would expect just for Dempster considering salary, but if the Cubs pay the salary that’s a decent amount of money. Someone mentioned earlier maybe Barney was going too and I’d want a lot more than Delgado for Dempster and Barney. I think it’s a good deal for the Cubs. I don’t want Dick Cheese coming around and saying I hate all the trades. I like this one if it happens. I just think it’s not a lot more than I would have expected assuming the Cubs kick in Dempster’s salary.

I would think you wouldn’t waste time talking with a team that you know Dempster wouldn’t approve. I would think he would give Theo a list of teams that are okay.

    @ WaLi:
If a player had a contract that allowed him to decline trades to certain teams that would be the case, but Dempster is a 10 and 5 player. He has a full no-trade clause. I’m sure Dempster has said a few things to the front office, but you never know what the player will do until he’s presented with the option. I just know that other GMs have said you work out the deal and then go to the player.

Here’s the problem with the info on the Dempster trade: It originated with Jon Heyman.

I’ve never found him all that credible. Should there be no trade, it’ll be another example of why.

I don’t like to invade Alvin’s territory, so we can come up with alternate plans. I don’t have tickets for the game, but I could easily meet up in a watering hole nearby either before or after.

i think i’ll be in town for the game on Sunday; which day are you all talking about?

I thought Mark Bowman was a national MLB.com writer. He’s the guy that usually gets stuck writing the “articles” about how MLB.TV has all kinds of awesome features this year. Unless I’m thinking of someone else.

I was talking about August 15th, but Dick CHeese says OV CONs can be deemed to have been held whenever two or more Three Wolf Moon T-shirts are worn in the same location.

I was thinking of this guy.

    @ Rice Cube:

I don’t exactly understand how a pitcher who has less club control time and won’t even net a comp pick plus Infante got Jacob Turner while a Garza + Barney package (if even offered) did not. Though the competitive balance picks being swapped might have evened things out, but I don’t think so.

For those who are interested in Breaking Bad but don’t want to pay for cable, my wife was just telling me that Amazon is offering a package where you can get them for like $2/episode, and they are released soon after airing. Cheaper than cable.

sounds like the main motivation for the ichiro trade was for the m’s front office was to avoid the public pressure to re-sign him this offseason. the sports world has become very bizarre.

I know you guys are all sticking around work, waiting for my preview breaking down this crucial Cubs-Pirates series, but you’re just going to have to be disappointed.

    Mini mini preview:
    The Cubs stink
I hope the Pirates trade for Paul Maholm and immediately go on a 4-20 skid

    @ josh:
    Ichiro requested the trade himself:

On behalf of our ownership group and everyone in the Seattle Mariners organization, I thank Ichiro for the great career he’s had here in Seattle.

Several weeks ago, Ichiro Suzuki, through his long time agent, Tony Attanasio, approached Chuck Armstrong and me to ask that the Mariners consider trading him. Ichiro knows that the club is building for the future, and he felt that what was best for the team was to be traded to another club and give our younger players an opportunity to develop.

Of course, this is a polite way of saying, “This teams sucks. Get me the hell out of here. The Yankees will do.”
