But yes, assuming it does happen and it’s Dempster plus $6 million for Delgado, then I’m pretty happy. I think the Cubs probably got a little more than Dempster is worth, but I don’t think it’s so much that I’m surprised.

Someone mentioned earlier maybe Barney was going too and I’d want a lot more than Delgado for Dempster and Barney. I think it’s a good deal for the Cubs. I don’t want Dick Cheese coming around and saying I hate all the trades. I like this one if it happens. I just think it’s not a lot more than I would have expected assuming the Cubs kick in Dempster’s salary.

If a player had a contract that allowed him to decline trades to certain teams that would be the case, but Dempster is a 10 and 5 player. He has a full no-trade clause. I’m sure Dempster has said a few things to the front office, but you never know what the player will do until he’s presented with the option. I just know that other GMs have said you work out the deal and then go to the player.
