They’re gonna score two runs on two hits. We’re gonna be 0-15 with runners on. Fuck this noise.

    dmick89,

I mean, it’s bullshit. If they were even hitting at league average with runners on, we’d be looking at a .500 stretch right now and not even having this conversation. It’s hot fucking garbage.

    uncle dave,

Probably still under .500 considering how pooriy they’ve pitched (that’s been the primary problem IMO), but yeah, they’d be a lot better and we’d not be complaining too much.

If I were facing the Cubs I’d just put the first two men on every inning.

Gameday is saying more than a few of these balls Jake has thrown are actually strikes. Is it broken or is the umpire a fucking idiot?

Baseballs have been flying out of ballparks all year. The MLB should have all the balls recalled.

Jake is getting hit hard tonight.

He clearly isn’t right. Hope he can fix his shit during the break or this team prolly isn’t doing much even if it does make the postseason.

    Smokestack Lightning,

I’m much more open a Rich Hill trade than I was earlier in the year. Can’t believe I just said that. (dying laughing)

The way they’re playing these days I’m getting less inclined. (dying laughing)

    Ugly, ugly outing by Cahill.

I’m usually not given to supporting drastic roster shakeups during rough patches, but if Theo were to release like, the entire bullpen, I wouldn’t complain.

Could be worse, kids. We could be Mets fans watching all their incredibly talented young pitching go to pieces at the same time.

dmick89: We should have known getting swept by the Padres in that doubleheader was the start of something mediocre.

I knew. I just didn’t want to say anything.

I’ve complained about this before, but the home run rate is back up around 1999-2004 levels. I’m tired of all the cheap longballs this year.

Hey guys. Didn’t have time to tune in to the game tonight or read all the comments. I assume that arrieta finally turned things around and was able to locate his pitches while the cubs offense simultaneously figured out how to not strand 8000 guys in scoring position. Pretty sure it was like a 9-0 cubs win. Unless anyone tells me otherwise in the next four seconds, I will assume this is all correct.

I just checked the box score. You fuckers lied to me by not giving me the update in that four second window. All is lost. On the plus side, the pottery barn is running some amazing sales right now. You can get towels or whatever the fuck the pottery barn sells for bargain prices. Also, Ian Happ is dominating.

    Edwin,

July 15th through July 17th is Evolution Championship Series 2016 in Vegas. It’s the world’s largest fighting game tournament, attracting players from all over the world. Street Fighter V is the headline game, and the top 8 will be shown on ESPN 2 this year. It’s not Cubs baseball, so it’s not completely terrible.

I looking forward to the All-Star break. I need a few days without games that matter in the standings.

    Rizzo the Rat,

I’m surprised the Cubs or even MLB is letting Dexter Fowler play in the game. There should be some rule that if you aren’t on the active roster on the final day before the break, you’re ineligible to play in the game. The Cubs, all things considered at this point, have no interest whatsoever in allowing Fowler to play in that game. He’s going to be important as the Cubs try to lock down one of the two wild card spots available.

I picked an opportune time not to be reading every word. This 5–14 shit has been awful. For a team that was 47–20, finishing 53–23 for 105 wins seems way out of reach, even though that’s about what they did in the second half last year.

    There is always next year.

    dmick89,

Is it really much different than the rehab starts he’s doing? He won’t even play a full game. Maybe they could put him in a DH spot, too (is that allowed?).

    SK,

No, the All-Star Game always has a DH since 2010. Also, this year the AL is technically the home team, despite the venue. My only question is whether Dex can play a position other than the one he was voted in for.

Right now .500 the rest of the way seems a tall enough order.

At least Fowler won’t get hurt again in the ASG. The rest of the Cubs all stars will all probably collide with one another on their way to the dugout and will miss the rest of the season.

The AL is also scheduled to be the home team in 2018, when they play in Nationals Park. The MLB just doesn’t seem to care about agreement between the home team and venue anymore.

    Rizzo the Rat,

Does it really matter? They could play the all star game in a parking lot for all I care. As much as I’d like the NL to win this year, the only thing I really care about is that the Cubs players don’t get hurt. I’m kind of hoping they all come down with a 24 hour flu that prevents them from even leaving their hotel rooms. We’re not going to win the wild card if these guys get injured.

    cerulean,

I applaud your optimism, but I think beating last year’s 97 is going to be very difficult at this point. Prior to spring training I was thinking 95 wins, but I became more optimistic and went with 97 at the start of the season. I think 95 is looking pretty good right now.

Now that this season is in the dumpster, what kind of haul would Bryant fetch? I’m thinking the starting pitching staff of another team? Or would it be unreasonable to ask for the bullpen too?
