Mercurial Outfielder has a really good article up on The NonSequitor that’s well worth the read.

One of Brooks most annoying traits is his elitism/snobby nature. His premise was convoluted and I think his point (People just want to feel morally superior) misses the actual issue which is it is hard for people to put themselves into such shocking context and truly understand how they would act. It is easier to impose your self view on the situation or bend it to fit what you imagine yourself to be. Certainly the real reason people are outraged is because Jer likes to fuck young boys and PSU enabled him.

I always enjoy a good takedown of Brooks. Sm-g F-ck.

A comment I left on Tango’s blog about Posnanski:

I have an issue with Poz saying that Paterno “lived a profoundly decent life.” Does a profoundly decent person cover up for a child child rapist for more than a decade? Does he sell his house for $1 (plus love an affection) to his wife four month ago in an effort to protect his own butt while ensuring the victims see less money in civil suits? Does he send the child abuser to the homes of high school students for recruiting while the Grand Jury testimony is ongoing?

We know that Paterno learned of this no later than 1998. 13 years later he’s sending the same guy to children’s homes to recruit them.

Paterno may once have lived a profoundly decent life, but even that we can’t be sure of. The last 15 years of his life has been anything but decent. If he ever lived a decent life, the best one can say is that the very system he created corrupted him and numerous others at PSU. Decent people make mistakes. They make many of them, but they don’t make these mistakes. What other person who has covered up a major crime has ever been called a decent person? This act, or rather inaction, defines Joe Paterno. It’s the closest look we have into what kind of person he truly is. For all we know it’s the kind of person he’s always been. It’s at least been the type of person he’s been for 13 or more years.

Faced with the obvious decision to retire, this profoundly decent person pretended he could take the decision out of the hands of the BoD. Had he retired, the response by PSU students would have been much different than it ended up being because he was fired. He didn’t even have the decency to retire.

If someone wants to argue that Joe Paterno was a very good football coach, I don’t think a reasonable and honest person could argue otherwise. If someone even wants to argue that at one point Paterno was a decent man, I might take the word of the person if that person had any credibility. Based on what we know now I don’t see how anybody could argue he lived a profoundly decent life.

If Poz writes about baseball I might read it, but he deserves the criticism he’s gotten. I won’t go out of my way to read his work anymore. If someone posts a link, I might click on it. I certainly understand why people are upset at him and understand why many fewer people will be reading him than before.

    BOOM goes the dynamite:

Investigators with the Pennsylvania attorney general’s office had by 2010 already come to the conclusion that Sandusky, the longtime defensive coordinator for Joe Paterno’s Nittany Lions, was a serial molester, according to two people with knowledge of the case. But what had started with a complaint of sexual assault from a high school freshman had grown to include another matter altogether: whether Penn State had acted to cover up Sandusky’s behavior, even crimes.

They must have a mountain of evidence.

Despite that knowledge and despite Paterno undoubtedly knowing about it, he sent Sandusky on the recruiting trail. The only justice in that is that they’re losing recruits and that’s hardly justice. If that’s all the justice that comes Paterno’s way the system has failed.

Man, the university’s chief lawyer is suspiciously over the top in claiming he knew nothing

“at no time, whether in 1998 or in 2002 or any other point in time, was I made aware or did I have knowledge of Jerry Sandusky engaging in sexual misconduct with young children,” Courtney said. “Had I had any idea that there was even remotely improper conduct with children on any day since the beginning of time, nothing in the world would have kept me from being absolutely certain that it was reported to the police immediately. That is my duty.”

he was “as horrified and appalled and sickened and disgusted as everyone else was” when he read the grand jury report

During the Iowa/Purdue game the announcer mentioned Paterno’s cancer and that we should pray for the victims and also give our prayers to Paterno.

    Yeah, not gonna happen.
