I have to be honest, I barely follow the rest of MLB aside from whoever the Cubs are playing each series. I include The Outside Corner at Bloguin, our old blog network in the ACB days, in my list of sites to check when writing series previews and "daily" facepalms and they always have a good take on what's going on around the league. This year, they began putting out The Outside Corner Newsletter (screenshot below), which is published 1-2x a week. It's pretty similar to the Awful Announcing Newsletter (which one of the guys is also involved with). This newsletter is free. They promote the must reads of the week from all around the web as well as tweets and photos you may have missed. Basically, if you signup you can read more quality baseball content and be lazier in your pursuit of it.

As a bonus, if you sign up through us (USE THIS LINK), you'll be entered for a $200 Vivid Seats Gift Card drawing they'll do at the end of the month. Again, this is a free newsletter. You'll also help us keep the lights on here, and support dmick's extensive My Little Pony collection. We wouldn't have done this if we didn't think this was worth supporting. Not just for their great content, but this also helps support the guys who laughed Yellon out of the room when he threatened to sue us and Bloguin a few years back because someone was impersonating him in the comments section (dying laughing).

Sign up soon so we can get paid before they realize that we're not re-un-discredited again.

    @ Berselius:

[…] the Brewers served only Schlitz, Miller, and Pabst at County Stadium. With three world-class breweries only a stone’s throw away, why would they do anything else?

3 Ks, after a rough start to the inning, by which I mean Samardzija allowed two hits, allowed him to finish the inning with no runs allowed

I was curious how frequently the highest strikeouts guys at the MLB level did at High A so I looked. I took the highest K% batters from 2010-2013 with a minimum of 600 PA. Adam Dunn and Brett Wallace didn’t play in High A so I took the 10 highest in MLB who played at High A and calculated their average K% when they were in High A.

The average age was 21.1 and they averaged 406.9 PA. They struckout 94.1 times, which is 22.8%.

Javier Baez has only 173 PA in High A, but he’s struckout 46 times, which is 23.6%. This season it’s much higher than that.

However, only JP Arencibia had a lower BB% at High A than Baez. Arencibia’s strikeout rate was only 17.6%, which was the lowest in the group that I looked at.

Chris Davis (29.4% K rate when he was in High A and 5.3% BB rate) might be the most similar to Baez.

The average BB% for these guys at High A was 11.7%. If you’re going to strikeout a ton, you’ve got to get on base via the walk because your batting average is very likely going to be quite low. 8 of these 10 had BB% higher than 10%.

If Zambrowno started 1-4 the fans would be calling for his demotion. Samardzija has pitched great so far, but based on the fans weird old timey love for pitcher wins, he must be due for a demotion.
