JOT Quick Hits: Cubs Minor League Recap 7-14-13

In Minor Leagues by myles37 Comments

Albuquerque 5 @ Iowa 1 (18 innings)

Both Jake Arrieta and Jeffry Antigua had "starts" in this one. Arrieta allowed 1 in 6, fanning 9. Antigua allowed none in 6, but only struck one out. Offensively, scoring 1 run in 18 innings is clearly not good for the stat line. Ty Wright did go 2-6 with 2 walks, though. Logan Watkins doubled, as did Junior Lake

Jupiter 2 @ Daytona 6

Zeke DeVoss had a Logan Watkins-day. He was 0-2 with 3 walks and an RBI. Elliot Soto was 2-4, as was Bijan RademacherChadd Krist has risen, going 2-3 with a walk and a jack. Dustin Geiger was 2-3 and also got plunked. Taiwan Easterling saw his average fall to .199 with a 0-2 day, but he did walk twice. His line reads .199/.279/.292 on the season.

Ben Wells allowed 8 baserunners in 5 innings, but only 2 of them scored. Yao-Lin Wang picked up the W with 2 scoreless in the 6th and 7th, and Eduardo Figueroa pitched 2 scoreless frames as well.

Kane County 2 @ West Michigan 5

Gioskar Amaya is on the comeback trail. He doubled and singled twice, also drawing a walk. His average now stands at .265. However, Amaya was also picked off, caught stealing, and had an error. Albert Almora had his worst day of the year so far, going 0-5. Dan Vogelbach was 2-4. Carlos Escobar had a 2-run homer in the 4th, the only offense of the day.

Scott Baker rehabbed in this game. He did not reinjure himself. No one cares about his line. Sheldon McDonald allowed a run in an inning. Michael Heesch allowed no runs in 4 innings. Hooray!

Boise 3 @ Vancouver 0

Daniel Lockhart had the best game of the bunch, driving in a pair in a 3-4, 2B day. Jacob Rogers had a double and a single and drove in the other run. Jordan Hankins had the other multi-hit game.

Rob Zastryzny started this game and went 2 innings. He didn't allow a run (and hasn't yet), striking out 2. Sam Wilson8th round pick this year, went 2 innings and was even more dominant. 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 SO. Zachary Godley (10th round) also went 2 and allowed none, as did Scott Frazier (6th round). Matt Iannazzo had the save.

VSL Cubs 1 @ VSL Phillies 0

1-4 batters: 8 hits. 5-9 batters, 0 hits.

AZL Cubs 6 @ AZL Athletics 4

Josh Vitters!!! (0-3, 2 SO)

I'd like to take a moment and wonder aloud why my man Carlos Martinez-Pumarino hasn't been used since the 4th of July. Come on, Boise. Do the right thing.

    @ Suburban kid:

If nobody cares about the official scorer though, does anyone truly care?

Also, when Casey Coleman entered the game in the 18th, despite his otherwise “good” numbers, I figured it was over for the I-Cubs. That and the whole “not scoring” thing.

Should the Cubs trade Garza within their division? I say yes. And they should be very public about having those talks. Maybe it’ll drive up the return if Stl Cin and Pit bid against each other. Plus taking prospects from a competitor sounds good to me.

I was on yahoo and one of the links was “15 NFL Stars that will be cut in training camp.” I thought this had to be a shitty bleacherreport pagegrab, but it was the OTHER shitty pagegrab site!

With everyone focused on the home run, now is the perfect time for the wily batsman to fool the defense and put down a perfect bunt.— Old Hoss Radbourn (@OldHossRadbourn) July 16, 2013

Twitter is pissing me off again:

Winner of "Americas sport" home run derby is not even from America…#AmericasPASTtime— Dylan DeWitt (@DeWitter_) July 16, 2013

Little depressed that the winner of the home run derby in America's pastime can't speak a word of English …— Hayden Greer (@Hayden_Wesley) July 16, 2013

We are in America, shouldn't have to have a translator to congratulate the Home Run Derby Champ. #merica #justsaying— Hali McCumbee (@hdanielle02) July 16, 2013

    Ugh.

While signing autographs before he left the Javits Center, one fan yelled to Selig: “Thanks for your hard work, bro.”
