JOT: Cubs Minor League Recap 6-17-13

In Minor Leagues by myles74 Comments

Omaha Storm Chasers 0 @ Iowa Cubs 2

No walks and a single extra-base hit (Logan Watkins, double). You'd think the Cubs lost, right? Wrong: Chris Rusin pitched a shutout because he's on a mission to make me look as stupid as possible. 5 hits and a walk, and 8 strikeouts.

Mississippi Braves 1 @ Tennessee Smokies 2

1-8 each had a hit, but they were all singles. This was another 1-walk performance with 11 strikeouts and no XBH.

Eric Jokisch went 6 strong innings with 3 hits and 3 walks combined for a single run. After he left, Trey McNutt had a nice inning, and then Tony Zych and Frank Batista each had a scoreless frame.

Daytona Cubs 2 @ Clearwater Threshers 9

Javier Baez drew a walk, stole a base, and struck out once. He scored a run. The entirety of the scoring game on a 2-run blast by Dustin GeigerBen Carhart had a double and a single; John Andreoli had the only other hit.

Zach Cates went 4 innings and allowed 5 hits and 5 walks, which contributed to 4 runs allowed. Austin Reed said "I can do better," and allowed 5 runs in just 2 innings. That's pretty efficient. Jeffrey Lorick had 2 scoreless.

Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 8 @ Boise Hawks 6

Good offense here. David Bote is 0-2 with a pair of walks and an RBI. Carlos Penalver had a walk and a single, as did Kevin Encarnacion, and Jacob Rogers had a pair of singles. Yasiel Balaguert had 3 RBI on the strength of a single and a double. Daniel Lockhart had a pair of walks also. Lance Rymel and Trevor Gretzky each had a double.

Duane Underwood had a bad game. In 3.2 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks. Orbandy Rodriguez was way worse. In 2.1 innings he allowed the 6 hits and also 4 runs. Ethan Elias allowed a run in 2 innings. Tyler Bremer pitched a 1-2-3 9th.

DSL Cubs 8 @ DSL Mets1 5

Frandy Delarosa is now batting .053.

VSL Cubs 7 @ VSL Rays 5 (13 innings)

Ricardo Marcano hit a 3 run home run to tie it in the 8th.

Sorry for no Sunday JOT, the past couple of days have been a clusterfuck of shit going on for me. Who knew driving halfway across the country and back in a weekend would mean no dinner for the rest of the week?

Good to see Baez walking. He now has more walks this year (15 BB, 61 games) than he did last year (14 BB, 80 games)

So, players born the year I was born (1979) are now considered super old. That’s fine. I feel like my body recovers much more slowly from injury now and can kind of understand that. I wonder if the really old feeling will be when they refer to players born the same year as my son (2010) as veterans.

We’ve been getting a crapload of spam registrations lately so I’ve added a plugin to help with this. If for some reason you get locked out, let me know.

Been there, done that. You’re still young. But not as young as my sons (dying laughing).

    @ josh:

While Zambrano was with the team I had a frame of reference since he was a month or so older than me – I could say that I was at least younger than him. Now I just feel old (dying laughing).

There are 7 active players older than me right now: Andy Pettite, Mariano Rivera, Henry Blanco, Darren Oliver, Jason Giambi, Raul Ibanez, and Jose Contreras.

Plus I still have Jaromir Jagr in the NHL. I haven’t looked at the NBA or NFL, but I figure those have to be counted on one hand.

Well, the Cubs didn’t win Sunday, and that was the difference between nine games under .500 and 11 games under .500

Every game is a two game swing between over and under .500. This is nothing new, Al.

Al waited an ENTIRE YEAR before posting these thoughts. If that’s not infinite patience, then maybe I don’t know the definition of the word.

Does anybody have an account that hasn’t been banned at BCB? It would be awesome to copy and paste that comment into the actual post and see how long it takes for it to disappear and the user to get banned.

I’m glad you are all having fun mocking me.
Is it amusing? Having fun with your day? Maybe I should just close comments here.

    Cripes.

It seems Alvin even went overboard for most of his sheep. He is getting killed in the comments. It’s hilarious.

And it’s not pleasant for me to read
… given the work I put into this site, and into this piece in particular.

Poured my heart out, and what do I get? Mocked.

Not fun. Not one bit. I think you can all stop now.

I’d think I have more of a right to complain
… exactly because I pay for all these games. I’m their best customer.

    @ cwolf:
I like how Al has to keep warnings on file for various infractions to suit the particular offense, and that Al is giving me another chance. Too bad it only lasted five minutes, not enough time to turn green (TWSS).

He pours his heart out into making those warnings. I didn’t even get a warning when I got banned a few years ago.

Also, how does this witless fuckstick consider himself their best fucking customer? He buys one bleacher ST and I think he has stated he rarely buys concession stuff. While he is obviously a loyal customer, I’d consider people who pay higher $$ for their tix and actually spend money there to be better customers.

I haven’t had a BCB account since Yellon banned both of my accounts posing as the two brothers from Rain Man. (dying laughing)

Jesus, I’ve got to admit that I really miss how frequently ACB used to make fun of Al. This shit is refreshing (dying laughing). He’s absurd.

    @ WaLi:
For those who may not know what you mean, yesterday’s game was the difference between 12 games under .500 and 10 games under .500. If they win a bunch of games between now and the all-star break, they’d be less games under .500. Also, if the Reds, Cardinals and Pirates lose a lot of games, the Cubs would be a lot closer to 1st place. At that point they may decide they are in the race and trade a player or two to try to get to the playoffs.

This sounds like a lot, but if you’ve watched baseball as long as I have, this is really pretty simple.

“Angel” I have to say great work! It is “JOT: Cubs Minor League Recap 6-17-13 | Obstructed View” actually the kind of information which must be shared across the net.
