I was briefly confused because I put King Felix for Mariners-Braves and then was reminded he had signed with ATL before opting out of the 2020 season.

I got similarly burned by Shane Victorino a week or so ago – he got signed on a minor league deal by the cubs but never made the big league team.

So if you’re Stroman, do you opt out knowing you can get at least 3 years and something like $40MM, or do you use the $21MM option as a sort of pillow contract?

I think it’s significantly less likely Stroman opts out now. Even with the explanation of an untreated injury, he was unplayable for several weeks before getting shut down and teams may be more cautious if they can’t see how he bounces back.

I saw that live. The other guys gave him a ton of crap, but his point was Barnes had a great OPS against Burnes. Funny thing though was the HR was against the reliever.

I’m probably most proud of this speed round. My two rarest guesses were my last two guesses, both former Cubs: Burnitz and Weathers.

Oh yeah. I want to say he was a lifelong #2 hitter. I’m pretty sure his OPS was a lot more O than P.

Upon further review, he hit 3rd more than he hit 2nd, but his combined PAs hitting leadoff/2nd far outnumber his appearances batting 3rd in the order. Man, he had some great seasons. Two 7-WAR seasons at SS, and neither was his MVP season. He and Eric Davis were among my favorites, which is really saying something because I hated the Reds. Those guys were just so damn good.

Looking at the list for the Cubs, it includes some relief pitchers who were very obviously 1-3 or 2-6 in their careers at the plate (Will Ohman and Brian Schlitter were on there). I feel like it should have a caveat of “at least once qualified for the batting title.”
