Why the fuck not? This is probably the best post I’ve ever written.

    @ mb21:

Vitters’ homer came off of Jonathan Sanchez.

More intriguing is that Baez… walked tonight. That would make his 2nd professional walk.

    @ Russ Millard:
You’ve mistaken my meaning. Baez and Castro have a very similar skill set (Baez has a bit more power), and so long as he makes contact at a similar rate to Castro, if we’re not worried about the walks (and few of us seem to be) with Starlin, then we shouldn’t be too much more worried about them with Baez.

Sveum may be nicknamed “Nuts,” but contrary to speculation, he’s not crazy enough to call for a sacrifice bunt in the first inning with wind gusts of more than 30 m.p.h. blowing out at Wrigley Field.

Joe Mather, who did just that on Monday, conceded Tuesday he was bunting on his own, trying to get a hit because the third baseman was playing deep.

“The way we’ve been scoring, I thought it was a good opportunity,” he said.

Even with the flags blowing straight out?

“Yeah, at that point we just needed runs,” he said.

    1.) Wind blowing out
2.) Hitting in prime RBI spot in lineup
    3.) Bunt
    4.) ???????
    5.) PROFIT

I mean, it’s one thing to dislike bunting for aesthetic reasons, but calling it out as foolish or poor strategy requires some rigorous analysis.

I don’t know about art but I know what I like.

    @ ACT:
If the infield isn’t prepared for the bunt then I think it’s a good play unless the batter is super slow. In that case there would need to be a shift on. I don’t particularly care about who is in a so-called RBI spot. The goal is to not make an out and if the defense is back then there’s probably a better chance of him reaching safely on a bunt than swinging away.
