Dreamcast 61: Not Mad, Just Disappointed

In by Rice Cube24 Comments

Rice and Berselius hang out to talk about the disappointing Cubs after an encouraging start to the season, when they went 14-13 by the end of April but finish May with a 24-31 record, vastly underperforming their Pythagorean record. We did talk about some of the new rules and the ABS system on the horizon, and just generally shrugged because they’ll either figure it out on this next West Coast trip or they won’t, it could go either way.

If you were wondering, this was the play we were remarking on:

The Cubs will play the Padres, Angels, and Giants this coming trip, and I’ll check out the series finale in San Francisco with some friends passing through town, so I hope they win at least that one.

Just discovered that as usual BN was talking about the Cubs clutch numbers long before I looked it up (dying laughing).

    berselius,

Great minds, but I think a lot of the time the Cubs community is in an echo chamber, they either all think the same on one extreme or the other and I’m trying to avoid all the grumpy old men (dying laughing)

Independent of all the hilarious shit he did over the years, maybe the greatest thing I appreciated about Zambrano was how for a few seasons, it felt like he could throw a no-hitter on any given night.

I was at a game in 2007 in which he took one into the 8th and ended up losing a 2 hit complete game 1-0. That was also the game when Chris Young of the Padres was ejected for throwing at Derrek Lee, and the indelible image in my mind is still Larry Rothschild at the top of the dugout steps, holding back an open-jerseyed Zambrano who was holding his belt aloft.
