Welcome to June

So you know by now that the Cubs had a bad May, though their multiple long win streaks have allowed them to maintain a 32-28 record through 60 games on this much needed off day. The Brewers get to play the Giants (lame) while the Cardinals play the Rangers (meh) so I’m unsure how much help that is, so the Cubs just need to take care of their own business, if they can.

The upcoming home stand is theoretically a welcome slate, as is most of the June schedule up until the end of the month, though we thought that was the case with the Astros and (wrongly) thought the Cubs pitching would stop giving up all the home runs. It’s probably good that the slumping team avoided sweeps on the road this time around, and if they want to embark on a good run, this seems the best time to do it. Over the next couple weeks, the Cubs will host the A’s (who have good hitters so we’ll see how that goes) and the Giants (who are…bad?) before going out west to face the Rockies and Giants. They’ll come back after that to host the Rockies and disappointing Blue Jays, before one last road trip to the mediocre Mets and the voodoo Brewers prior to a home stand against the Padres to end June. This is, on paper, the best time to feast on poor pitching and try to make up some ground, but you just can never tell, can you?

  1. Saw this via BN and wondered what y’all thought of the “check swing”…I did read somewhere that check swings back in the old days were even more egregious so maybe that’s not so bad
