Unclench, Cubs Clinched

38

For those of you who didn’t watch Saturday’s game, the Cubs won the series against the Cardinals and by doing so, have clinched the top wild card in the National League. As of now, based on the standings this time of year, the Cubs will host the San Diego Padres at Wrigley Field for all three games (if necessary) of the wild card series. I personally am hoping the Cubs just sweep so they get extra rest before they head to Milwaukee or Philadelphia, and especially to save one of the starters for the NLDS now that Cade Horton is out with a rib injury for a it (sigh).

Anyway, let’s celebrate, put your postseason roster predictions in the comments if you please, or don’t…I can’t tell you what to do.

  1. The only thing I wonder is whether Amaya is healthy enough to come back, as it would be tough to carry Kelly, McGuire, Amaya, AND Ballesteros…doesn’t leave a lot of defensive flexibility but sure gives you a lot of hitting options

  2. As of now…

One of TOR or NYY wins AL East and gets top seed
One of CLE or DET wins AL Central
Boston has WC2 and travels to whoever wins ALC
Mariners won AL West and has second seed
Whoever doesn’t win ALE gets WC1 and hosts whoever doesn’t win ALC

MIL won NL Central and has top seed
PHI won NL East and has second seed
Dodgers won NL West and hosts whoever emerges of Reds or Mets
Cubs have top wild card and hosts Padres

Oooh not so fast…if Boston loses I think they’re potentially the third wild card depending on what Cleveland does
