The 2025 Cubs Are Going to (Have a Chance to Win) the World Series!

While doing my best to do some form of “work” during work hours and tuning into this game late, I was gratified to see the Cubs score early, overcome a subpar Matthew Boyd start, and tack on late. It was really nice, despite the fact that it was the Pirates and they suck, to see the Cubs play well for the most part, racking up a bunch of runs and pulling off the sweep to clinch a postseason berth of some sort.

Going into the final 10 games, the Cubs at least have a chance to get Kyle Tucker right, wait out Seiya Suzuki’s illness (he came back for half the game while generally putting a charge into the balls he hit, albeit for outs), and figure out how to set up their pitching staff for either the wild card round or, more unlikely, the division. Trying to make up five games with just 10 to go is quite difficult but not impossible, and the Cubs will go on to play the nearly dead Reds to finish off this road trip.

Seeing Ian Happ heat up at the right time, Nico Hoerner make a late charge for the batting title, and the bullpen overall holding things down is nice too. I imagine the most likely opponent for the Cubs in the first round is the Padres, but chances are the games will all be at home at Wrigley, so let’s see what happens. I think Craig Counsell will do his best to continue to rack up wins while playing to preserve health until the big games, but at least now they can relax a little bit knowing they have a shot to go all the way again.

  3. They showed the replay just now, it glanced off the 1B glove then clanged off Mo’s helmet and knocked it off, he was stunned and didn’t run right away but he did just take his next AB
