Robot Overlords Will Scrutinize Balls and Strikes Soon

Seems that we are getting ourselves some automated balls and strikes soon. I unfortunately can’t read past the paywall and I’m not subscribing to that particular rag, but if this goes through, there might be more consistency to what we know as the strike zone as early as next season. They already tried ABS in the All-Star Game and that was pretty cool, and for the most part umpires do know the zone but they’re only human. If the technology is good enough, which it seems is the consensus, it makes sense to do it, even if it’s just a challenge system that still motivates everyone in the plate appearance to know their zone before issuing a challenge. I suppose there will be some objections from traditionalists, but I believe this will improve the game far more than it can piss people off.

Shaw said he talked to Counsell, Hoyer and consulted 4-5 Cubs veterans because he was in turmoil about going.

"I made sure everybody I talked to I had their support, that they knew why I was going, that I wasn't leaving just to leave, that it was something that was really important to my faith."

  3. andcounting,

It was a fair take, and sides have been taken so I guess there isn’t much more to say…he got the permission and support, and I guess despite his choice of friends it was still a friend, so now we move on πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Maybe this will change, but I don’t think I’ve been less excited about a Cubs postseason maybe ever.

I was less excited in 2018. I still think this one could be fun, and it’s the first in five years.

This season reminds me so much of either 2017 or 2018. The Cubs forgot how to hit after August. Trading for Murphy helped for 2 games and then all he could do was K like the rest of the team.
