    1. Rice Cube,

It’s probably Counsell, but that doesn’t really matter. He texts the coaches, big deal. The guys he’s making fun of may not even care, but the station that pays the Cubs $10 million+ a year to broadcast the games isn’t going to love their on-field moron criticizing the team’s brass. I do think the team has a say in who’s involved in the broadcasts.

    2. Rice Cube,

Ohhhh, I don’t think he meant to put it on twitter. Yeah, it’s possible he intended it to be a DM, but I think it’s much more likely he thought he was sending a text.

    3. I think it was Rizzo who called it that the winner would hit a homer on the final swing. Not a bad bet if you made it!

    4. It’s hilarious that Levine’s apology necessitated identifying the people he thinks are stupid. But it’s also interesting that Carter and Hoyer were never likely to be the people rankled by this. I’d imagine the bosses at the Score and Crane Kenney and his underlings in Cubs broadcasting are the ones most likely to react to this if anyone does.

    5. Rice Cube,

It was an absolute disaster of sound mixing. They decided to make the announcers, the players, the fans, and the stadium noise all equal volumes.

    6. The PCA interview wound up being one of the longest of the night and definitely interesting. What a fun guy.

    7. Rice Cube,

If you go back and watch that, notice how Pete starts saying “oh god” while the crack of the bat is still echoing at the plate. (dying laughing)

If the Brewers can fix McCullers, lmao, the NL central might as well pack it in.

I actually think this is a sign that bodes reallllllllly well for the Cubs 2nd-half chances.

    9. So my wife has finally shifted to cast iron pans, which we’ve never had before. I did a search here at OV, the obvious place for advice on cast iron care, but all I got were posts about Starlin Castironro. Not that helpful.

So are any of the 6 of us left here the cast iron gurus of the glory days of OV? Do you like the “lightly oil pan and bake for an hour upside down in oven” advice to season?

    10. BVS,

I reseasoned two skillets last year and did basically that. I gave them a thorough scrub with chainmail, a very thin coat of canola oil, and baked them upside-down at 475 or 500 for about an hour. Easy peasy.

    11. Two of my coworkers booked a long weekend trip to Chicago with the kids and are at the game…I hope it’s not too smoky and/or inebriated in the bleachers

    13. Your world champion Chicago Cubs hanging out in the bleachers so that the guy in the Arrieta jersey is, in fact, Jake Arrieta is pretty damn cool.

    15. I feel like I say this every year, but the Twins’ current uniforms are a downgrade from their last couple of sets.

    16. If I had a nickel for every time a Cubs lefty hit a homer to Anthony Rizzo, I’d only have ten cents, but it’s weird it happened twice.

    17. Sounds like Ohtani is giving up pitching indefinitely. He’s saying injury/wear-and-tear related but I think we all know he’s worried about PCA putting up a higher offensive WAR than him over an entire season.

    18. Not sure if this bank commercial that advertises their rewards program with “you could go somewhere warm, like Miami” is the right one to be running this time of year (dying laughing)

    19. Yesterday was one of the most entertaining games I’ve seen in ages. Mainly the in game interviews, which I usually detest, but the 2016 players were fantastic.

Follow up today and so far the actual play on the field is also quite entertaining.

Plus day games give me an excuse not to be outside in the high 90s.
