Dreamcast 115: Doing the Math

    Having already done a quick preview of the rest of the season, the jabronis convene to talk about:

    • Trying to catch the Brewers, however unlikely;
    • Thoughts on the offensive slump and pitching;
    • A spirited debate on which long man we trust most;
    • Preferred postseason opponents;
    • Probably way too much about groins

    I’d call this “Another Cubs Podcast” but then I feel like we’d have to change the entire name of the podcast…so appropriate, too bad we didn’t think of it way before (dying laughing)

      We haven’t talked expansions here much, but I prefer if mlb is going to expand, then they go big…all the way to 36 teams.

      Add Raleigh, Portland (I guess, it’s a cess pool, but mlb seems to like it), another NY team, another Bay Area team, Montreal, and Austin/San Antonio. I don’t think Nashville really works.

      3 divisions of 6 teams per league.

      Teams play 156 game schedule:
      12 vs division = 60
      5 vs rest of league = 60
      3 vs 12 teams (2 divisions) of other league = 36 next year swap 3rd division in.

      This makes 12 2-game series which isn’t super, but I’d put 3 2-game series in a week, all at home or on road. There would be 4 weeks like this, but only 2 on the road. With realignment should be doable.

      Regular season is 26 weeks with Mondays off.

      I prefer top 14 teams make playoffs (38%). 3 division winners, and 4 wild cards/ league. Top seed gets 1st round bye. Could do top 16 with regular seeding as in NBA (44%). Hopefully the 8th seed has a winning record. In my rules, no team that hasn’t won an actual majority of its games goes to the playoffs.

      I think they should stick with 2 expansion teams at the most for now and I wouldn’t go anywhere near a second Bay Area team until the A’s situation is fully resolved. I think Montreal should get a team and I’d put a third team in New York.

      For realignment I’d do something similar to the NBA. East/West, but use the AL/NL names. Split the two leagues into 4 divisions of 4 teams. Keep the teams in the same city in the same division.

    7. The Brewers held a pregame ceremony honoring the legendary Bob Uecker yesterday, complete with Bud Selig, Bob Costas, and multiple franchise luminaries on hand. All the Brewers players wore special tribute jerseys with “UECK” instead of their own names on the back. Which makes it almost fitting that they lost.

      While departing the field, he tossed his bat in the general direction of the umpire, though it hit hitting coach Brant Brown instead.

      We have to assume he dropped it, allowing three Brewers to score.

    39. Looks like our theme got too out of date and was disabled by the host. Might have to roll with this for a few days until we find something new.
