Just to further ramble on the media criticism tangent at the end, I thought Adam’s defense of Alex Cohen is pretty similar to the one I made for Zaidman a few years back (which hasn’t really held up). I guess I should give him more time to figure it out.

I could have rambled for another 10 minutes about my lukewarmness on Boog as well π

More rambling! And take pictures in AZ (dying laughing)

I had some trouble on rarity for 20 game winners on those teams.

I remember getting pissed at Boog for some offhand comment last year but don’t remember the details so I guess it wasn’t that awful (dying laughing). Aside from being kind of meh on his playcalling my biggest complaint is his banter with Taylor McGregor, which only ever seems to reinforce negative stereotypes of sideline reporters.
berseliusQuote Reply
I have nothing specific against Boog, but heβs no Len Kasper.

Cubs no longer in last place – hang the banner!
berseliusQuote Reply
For sure. The main thing I miss about Len is that he is a thoughtful person, and I felt like it came across in his coverage. Boog feels more like a “someone just handed me this info” kind of guy.
berseliusQuote Reply
berselius,
Am unsure if that’s just his bit or if the producers are mandating that they do dumb cringe banter, it reads like a creepy old man hitting on an attractive woman who is just trying to get on with her day, and it really shouldn’t

Len and JD is probably the best booth I can remember, with the caveat that I was only 11 when Harry Caray died and kids donβt pick up on as many of the factors that make a production better or worse.
PerkinsQuote Reply
Rice Cube,
I only really notice it with Taylor, I don’t know if it actually happens as often with Elise, but it could be my subconscious bias since Elise has proven that she can do color analyst work and is a former player.
berseliusQuote Reply
Perkins,
Hughes and Santo will always be my #1, but Len and JD are definitely my favorite TV crew. Jon Miller might be the only TV announcer that I like better than Len, though I guess he also does mostly radio these days too.
(Vin Scully is his own category of course)
berseliusQuote Reply
No shade on Boog for his charity work and genuine friendship with Sarah Langs though
berseliusQuote Reply
berselius,
I don’t think Elise would play along at all
Rice CubeQuote Reply
berselius,
Oh I was thinking TV booths, but I agree Hughes/Santo is the clear #1 overall.
PerkinsQuote Reply
Perkins,
SK found a clip of Santo freaking out because Theriot TOOTBLAN’d again, I’m unsure where it is now but I’m glad to know it exists somewhere (dying laughing)
Rice CubeQuote Reply
Rice Cube,
Elise worked the Rockies series last year when I had seats near the dugout, she was great talking to the crowd from the camera well and taking selfies etc with the kids in the section.
berseliusQuote Reply
berselius,
Come to think of it, it’s kind of weird that Taylor didn’t do that series since she worked for the Rockies before being hired by Marquee.

Perkins,
Santo will always be the best but I’ve really warmed up on Coomer over the years. It probably helps that he stopped doing the fifth inning (dying laughing).
berseliusQuote Reply
berselius,
It is unfortunate re: who does the 5th inning still
Rice CubeQuote Reply
haha, Zaidman pbp is still way better than Coom pbp, and both are light years better than Judd Sirott was.
berseliusQuote Reply
Didnβt Santo have the call on that Theriot TOOTBLAN where he was out by a mile at home βwhat is wrong with that young man!β?
PerkinsQuote Reply
Perkins,
Yes that’s the one, I can’t find it, we need the SK Bat signal
