I think I’m really going to enjoy watching the Cubs hit this year. I’ll just have to tolerate the pitching somehow.

That picture of Hamels fools me every time. It reminds me of Basil Fawlty in that episode when he got concussion or something and was even more off his head than usual.

I’m wishing the Cubs had signed Grandal. It would be nice to have a catcher who turns balls into strikes rather than the other way around.

I want Chatwood in here. Have to find out if he’s worth a roster spot. Give him 6 batters and tell him that’s what he has no matter what.

I think I’m going to drop my win prediction down to 72 now. This team is horrible. They remind me of some of the Reds teams that could hit the shit out of the ball, but couldn’t pitch and those teams always sucked.

    dmick89,

The Cubs are averaging over 9 runs per game but they’re horrible.

I think their pitching is horrible right now. But I’m optimistic that can be fixed. I thought before the season that if the Cubs stay healthy they’d have a shot at leading the NL in runs scored.

I feel similarly to this team’s chances as I did heading into 2015, with the major difference being the team’s trajectory. I think I might be willing to settle on having good years from Bryant, Rizzo, Schwarber and Báez. This team might be fun to watch if I don’t worry about the playoffs.

If we’re going to take the average of their runs scored over three games, it’s probably worth pointing out that they’re currently winning only a third of their games. The Cubs won’t score as many runs moving forward and they’ll give up fewer runs as well. Are they the worst team in baseball? Of course not, but I think they’re more than likely below average and possibly well below average. I’ve thought since spring training started that this team probably had to get extremely lucky just to get a shot at the 2nd wild card. Everything would have to go right and that’s not realistic.

I may be overreacting. I don’t know. I think most of you have been way too optimistic about this team. I may be wrong. It wouldn’t be the first time so I guess we’ll see.

If it’s any consolation, the Red Sox are having pitching struggles as well. They’ve allowed 34 over 4 games (losing 3 of them) to the Mariners who are about just as bad as the Rangers.

Almost certainly you are. Even if the Cubs had swept this series, it would have told us almost nothing. The Orioles just took 2 of 3 from the Yankees in Yankee Stadium. The O’s are probably the worst team in baseball.

That being said, it doesn’t feel like you are overreacting.

After this one series, I’m about ready to burn it down and start over. Already sick of this shit.
