Cubs Match Their Win Total From the Last Two Seasons

47

Today was quite a day for myriad reasons, but on the baseball side, the Cubs won the game and the series before heading home and enjoying an off day prior to their weekend series against the Rays, where they’ll celebrate a legend too.

As the title suggests, this represents the Cubs’ 83rd win of the season, which matches their total (missing the playoffs both times) from 2023 and 2024. The division is a long shot, but the Brewers getting swept helps a bit there, and the Cubs will remain at least three games up on San Diego for the top wild card heading into the much-needed off day, along with what I believe is a magic number of 8 to secure a postseason trip since the Giants lost. I’m going to tempt the monkey paw and make a hot take that the Cubs will not finish 2025 with just 83 wins.

This is also an excuse to highlight the various contributions on offense (just enough) by the Cubs against a pretty darn good pitcher, although they probably could have done better against the bullpen.
