So I think MLB/owners have made a few proposals since MLBPA made their initial offer, with the last one being super ludicrous. MLBPA to their credit have been like “whatever, bro” and I think they’ll wait a few to make their counteroffer as there haven’t been actual negotiations yet as far as I can tell. We talked about the way these proposals, particularly from MLB and ownership, have been released to the media without much in the way of pushback at the end of the last pod, but for now it seems MLBPA just wants to do stuff on the margins until it gets closer to the deadline. Via Jorge Castillo:

The proposals seem to make sense, MLBPA of course wants to create more jobs (ergo more roster spots), and to provide better job security given how hard it is to get to MLB in the first place. The last bit about getting data and video seems like something a team should do anyway to help their players get better, but some teams apparently don’t do that kind of thing so maybe having something like this regulated would be good. And now we wait for more as the weeks/days/hours tick down to the December deadline…
Oh, yeah, Seiya Suzuki hit his 100th career home run. Nice day for baseball, albeit being hot enough to fry your brain if you’re not wearing a hat.

Checking in on the Cubs pitching staff
they are 29th in the bigs by fWAR with 2.5. 2.0 of that is Ben Brown.
They are last in the league by bWAR with 1.0. 2.1 of that is Ben Brown.
It’s like a live experiment of how elite a defense you need with a replacement level staff.

If youβre following on gameday you can see the point when the data stops working. During Seiyaβs at bat it looked like he struck out on three unidentified pitches right down the middle. So when they challenged that pitch, I knew it was never going to work. (dying laughing)

The peacock MLB broadcasts have some bizarre audio production. The Pittsburgh v Washington broadcast at a barely occupied Nationals Park has the crowd and stadium noise amplified, the field mics cranked up even louder, and then the announcers mics sounding like theyβre watching from the cozy confines of an acoustically perfect NPR studio. The mix also seems to change every time they cut to a different camera. Itβs so weird.

Ferguson likes to mix his cutter, 4-seamer, sinker, and sweeper inside on the hands of righties so they canβt tell how much or which way the pitches will break. The 4-seamer is laser straight. The sinker breaks in a bit. The cutter breaks away a little, and the sweeper breaks a tiny bit if he throws it AT the batter, a lot if he throws it over the plate, but it just hangs and floats through happyland when it starts slightly inside. So his inside pitches are either nasty af or batting practice.
That one to Jordan Walker was not nasty.
