Kenny Lofton just called out Alex Gonzalez.

Then he realized and was like, sorry bro!

The Cubs are playing tonight. In game 1. Of the World Series.

    Hold. On. To. Your. Butts.

I would normally encourage you to run, not walk, to make such a brilliant idea happen. But I’m a little superstitious right now. So instead, I won’t tell you what to do.

I’m thinking a 6-spot in the first inning would get these announcers to stop talking about the Indians stealing bases.

And a few CS added to that.

Also wouldn’t mind if the Cubs light up Andrew Miller early and often, because I imagine he will be the one getting the Kershaw tongue baths this series.

Fun fact about those hats with the World Series/Postseason patch on the side and that silly New Era logo on the other: the New Era patch is just glued on and easily removed.

Also holy shit, the Cubs are in the World Series.

Man, Kershaw needs a new agent if his contract obligates him to give tongue baths to other players.

I’m actually glad Indians added Salazar to their roster. I feel like it takes pitchers longer to come back to form than position players.

The Napoli at bat Lesters pitch on Lindors steal was clearly a strike and made it 0-2. Changed the whole at bat. This ump is a joke. He looks 75 years old. There’s gotta be a mandatory retirement age for umpires.

You go to the ducking WORLD SERIES and bring in a sign that says ‘Bartman For President’?

That he and Joe West are both on this crew puts lie to the notion that MLB is trying to put its best umpires on the World Series.

They saw Angel Hernandez have a decent game and figures they would roll with it I guess

Look at the bright side, at this rate, we probably won’t be seeing Andrew Miller until game 2.

Guys. This isn’t the Cubs fault. This is the nastiest stuff I’ve seen this year and it doesn’t help the ump is giving him a big zone.

Kluber is over 50 pitches in 3 innings. Normally I’d like that, but they’ll have to face Andrew Miller. This game sucks.

Kluber over 50 pitches already though! It seems like he’s expending a lot of energy too. I wouldn’t be surprised if he falls apart with his control one inning.

    IamNotARobot: Game 1. Game 4. Game 7.

Eh. One great game doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be the same 4 or 7. Cubs were shut down by Kershaw early in the CS, pantsed him for the pennant.

That said, Kluber looks unbeatable tonight.

    umbra,

I don’t think I’ll ever understand his yips throwing to bases.

But then, I can’t fathom how a professional basketball player can’t make 50% of his free throws either.

    Good parts of this game:
    1. Schwarber looks good at the plate
    2. So does Ben Zobrist
    3. Kluber can’t pitch every game

    Bad parts of this game:
    Literally everything else

    Smokestack Lightning,

I think he figured Grimm has a smaller platoon split as a pitcher.

Probably, but still. Lindor’s home splits against RHP are even scarier.

Anyway. It hardly matters. Kluber was outstanding. Miller is as advertised. Cubs chances are not great under those circumstances regardless.

I’m just finding shit to get mad about.

Seriously, though, what’s with Soler not pinch-hitting? If he’s on the roster, he has to be well enough to play, right? I don’t get it.

    BVS,

Ross hits in a key situation and immediately comes out of the game. Baffling.

Only thing I can figure is that Joe perhaps thought he’d be a better bet to have a patient AB and possibly draw the walk.

Honestly, I can’t figure it out.

Robert Perez hit .183/.285/.294 in the regular season, which was improbably good enough to merit him getting EVERY SINGLE START in the playoffs for the Indians. He had a nice ALDS and was basically worthless in the ALCS. He comes out well enough defensively (in fact, all of his value is generated there).

There are two things you can be happy about at the plate if you’re a Perez fan. The first is his patient approach: he’s drawn a walk in 12.1% of his lifetime plate appearances. The other is his ability to hit the ball all around; he is about as diverse as you can get. That said, there’s a lot of swing and miss to his game, and if you can keep the ball down, he’ll fail to do anything productive with the ball if he even makes contact with it at all. Offensively, he’s a 3 of 10 and defensively he’s a 7 of 10. Overall, (I weight catchers at 70% offense, 30% defense), that means he’s a 4.2 of 10.

Rondon’s forearm problems seem to have messed up his mechanics. How many hanging meatballs has he served up since being declared healthy?

    Rizzo the Rat:
    Smokestack Lightning,

That makes no sense. The tying run was on first base. A walk would be good, but a hit, especially for extra bases, would be much better.

I’d rather Soler there too, but I saw him as more of a hail mary than anything else. Doubtful he does anything there.

But Ross was like a checkdown pass on 3rd and long. (dying laughing)

All I wanted was one of the two in Cleveland and I didn’t expect to win a game that Kluber started in Cleveland. It would have been nice with Lester pitching, but I still feel good about this series. I’m sticking with Cubs in 6. I’m also thrilled with how good Schwarber’s eye at the plate was. Like the Cubs, I also think Schwarber has a decent chance of ending up the best offensive player on this team in a year or two. I was also impressed with how well the Cubs did against Miller. They didn’t score, but they made him work. Can’t imagine he’s good for anything over an inning tomorrow and even that might be questionable.

I wasn’t worried about Scharber, so other than an opportunity to say, “I told you so,” this game was a total downer for me.
