Terry Francona to leave Boston?

In Major League Baseball by dmick89Leave a Comment

Terry Francona may be out as manager of the Red Sox as early as today so reports a lot of people with sources. I for one would be very happy if the Cubs targeted him as their manager. He’s one of the best in the game. He might be the best.

Terry Francona may depart as manager of the Boston Red Sox, a well-placed source within the organization said Thursday.

“It has not been decided yet whether (Francona) is wanted back or will want to come back,” the source said. Francona’s fate could be decided in a meeting of the team’s upper management of owner John Henry, CEO Larry Lucchino and chairman Tom Werner. The meeting is expected to be held on Friday.

Despite general manager Theo Epstein’s declaration during a news conference Thursday at Fenway Park that “we don’t believe in scapegoats, in particular nobody blames Tito for what happened in September,” Francona’s future with the team remains very much in doubt.

Francona himself reinforced the idea that after eight seasons, he may have run his course as manager.

“It’s a fair question,” he said when asked if he wanted to be back.

Acquiring Theo Epstein would be awesome too.

I remember being ecstatic when I found out the Cubs got Nomar. Pretty sure I danced. If the Cubs just poach Boston’s management, I may be even happier. There could be spontaneous hugging of strangers.

Olney reporting that ATL may look to move Heyward. I’m sure the Cubs have nothing to offer (aside from Castro and Jackson), but WANT.

I think the Cubs could put together a package. Brett Jackson and Andrew Cashner would have to be included. I’m guessing Trey McNutt too.

    I’d probably do that trade.

I don’t get the Papelbon hate from Boston. You could just as easily blame that loss on 162 on Carl Crawford. For a guy who is known as a good defender, he had a very catchable ball hit to him that would have ended the game and it went in and out of the glove. Yeah, I don’t think he deserves the blame for the entire season, but it makes as much sense as blame Pap in that case.

I know the Cubs have talked about building their farm system and to some extent they have, but this is a perfect chance to trade some of them.

Agreed. I am really high on Jackson (probably more than I should be), but I am aware that there are some question marks there. Heyward may have struggled this year, but if healthy, I can see him being one of the best 2-3 corner OFs for the next 7-10 years. Plus he brings a lot of plate discipline.

Not at the price he’ll command.

Just got this in an e-mail. Sounds like they’re expecting a lot of non-renewals this year, They’re also moving the renewal notification date up 2 months (after they moved it up a similar amount last year).
Dear Wennington’s Gorilla Cock:

Thank you for your tremendous support as Chicago Cubs a Season Ticket Holder this season.

As this season comes to a close and we prepare for 2012, we’d like to provide you with some important dates and inform you of some changes in our season ticket renewal and relocation process.

Based on your feedback, the Cubs will host our first ever Season Ticket Holder relocation event in person at Wrigley Field during the final week of November. The Season Ticket Holder relocation event will allow you to come to Wrigley Field at an assigned time based on your account tenure and personally view seats that are available for relocation. Our goal is to add transparency and interaction to the relocation process that we’ve had in the past. While our inventory is extremely limited, and you may not find seats to upgrade into, we want to provide the opportunity for more personal involvement in this process.

In order to successfully implement this relocation process and identify seats available for relocation, we’ll need all Season Ticket Holders to indicate their intention to renew for 2012 with a first payment of 10 percent by November 16. Seats that are not renewed will be made available for renewing Season Ticket Holders at the relocation events. Following the relocation events, we will make remaining inventory available to members of our Season Ticket Holder Waiting List. You’ll receive detailed information about the relocation event with your invoice in mid-October.
I’ve seen a few Boston games this year, but I don’t know much about Tito’s managing style. Of course, he’s an AL manager, and they don’t do much besides sit on their asses and pull their starters. And having a huge offense like the Sox’s means keeping “strategy” to a minimum.
www.didiheardexterisbackthisweekend.com
Yep, but I’m more excited about the show that airs after it (Homeland). I won’t be able to see either of them, or Breaking Bad for more than a week as I’ll be out of town until after the finale of Breaking Bad airs. So keep your spoilers on Unobstructed Views. word on the street is tito’s departure is coming from higher levels in the organization than theo. this would be a great time for ricketts to go out and offer theo a president spot with the cubs. tell him he’s in charge of everything baseball related.
