In aside by dmick89Leave a Comment

Baseball America has released their mid-season top 50 prospects. The only Cub on the list is Javier Baez at 25.  Likely to be a 3B when he hits the big leagues, but his bat is potent enough to play anywhere

Cubs to be patient with Javier Baez

In News And Rumors by Obstructed View Staff1 Comment

The Cubs top pick in the 2011 draft, Javier Baez, is off to a fantastic start. So far he's hitting .315/.403/.537 with 3 home runs in about 60 plate appearances. Prior to his game yesterday he had a wOBA of .415, which is good for a 161 wRC+. He's still young and this is just 60 plate appearances so the …

In Commentary And Analysis by dmick8984 Comments

Orange Guy had Jim Callis from Baseball America and Kevin Goldstein from Baseball Prospectus on the Cubs pre-pregame show today. The highlights Callis: Gaussman is the best player that actually has a chance of dropping to the Cubs, though the chance of him doing so is small (but nontrivial!) Cubs will probably draft Almora Callis would take Correa over Almora …

In Facepalm by dmick8965 Comments

I guess there's something going on tomorrow? The MLB draft is tomorrow. The Cubs worked out possible first round picks Carlos Correa (SS) and Max Fried (P) earlier this week, and several draft evaluators are prognisticating that the Cubs will take high school OF Albert Almora. It's nice not having to worry about the Cubs picking another Tyler Colvin or …

Cubs more likely to trade Ryan Dempster if they extend Matt Garza?

In Commentary And Analysis, News And Rumors by dmick896 Comments

Cubs right-hander Ryan Dempster, an obvious trade candidate, would be even more likely to be moved if the team signed righty Matt Garza to a contract extension. – Ken Rosenthal Does anybody understand this? I don't see what extending Garza has to do with whether or not the Cubs try to trade Ryan Dempster. Matt Garza is under club control …

Marcos Mateo left the game with an injury and there's no word on how serious it could be. They …

We just have the point-after-try to kick, or something Several months ago, we were on the "five yard line" in the Theo compensation situation. Since then we've crossed the blue line, stepped into the paint, crossed the box, and veered right at the fireworks factory exit, and now it's finally been decided that Cubs prospect Chris Carpenter would be the …

In Minor Leagues by dmick89176 Comments

Baseball America has released their annual top 100 prospects and 4 Cubs are on it. The prospect lists I always look forward to are those by Baseball America. It seems in recent years that a dozen people have tried to capitalize on the increasing interest in prospects and have come up with their own lists. I'm sure some of them …

My Top 2012 Cubs Prospects, Part 1

In Minor Leagues by Obstructed View Staff37 Comments

Following the Cubs minor leagues in 2012 is probably going to be more fun than following the big league team. Hopefully it will be more rewarding than what we're likely to see from the 2012 Cubs. Each year several sources release their top prospect lists. We talk a lot about them here and I thought I'd take a stab at …
