RE24 Update

If you couldn't tell, I'm back at work for the first time since Leah was born… so I have more spare time. Earlier in the season, I discovered that the Cubs barely had anyone on the Top 50 list for RE24 this season. That trend has continued. The only member on the list this year so far is David DeJesus.

47th David DeJesus, 5.91

65th Anthony Rizzo, 3.38

79th Nate Schierholtz, 2.40

It's really possible to only have 1 player in the Top 150 at the end of the season (if DeJesus and Schierholtz are traded). That's insane.

153rd Starlin Castro, -3.92

That's our 4th best player (that qualifies).

It’s a really good statistic because it a context-neutral way to quantify exactly how many runs a player has contributed to a team (above average, NOT above replacement-level). If you have an RE24 of 5, that means that when you add up the difference of expected total of runs after your plate appearances and before them, it’d be 5). The theoretically average player (2012 Denard Span: .282/.342/.395, wOBA .325, wRC+ 93) had a -0.34 RE24 last year.

Leader last year was Edwin Encarnacion, with 55.84. The worst player in baseball last year was Yunel Escobar, with -26.06.
