CAIRO’s Extremely Early Projected Standings

In Projections by dmick89206 Comments

SG published the first projected standings for his CAIRO projections (version .3) yesterday. They make a lot more sense to me than the early Oliver projections.

TM W L RS RA Div WC PL
Brewers 92 70 700 646 52.5% 14.3% 66.7%
Cardinals 90 72 708 648 36.8% 19.3% 56.2%
Reds 84 78 724 704 10.1% 10.8% 20.9%
Cubs 74 88 649 727 0.3% 1.1% 1.4%
Pirates 70 92 656 758 0.4% 0.4%
Astros 60 102 569 759 0.0%

The Oliver projected standings gave us a slim chance to contend, but this paints a very different picture.

******************************

The Cubs are interested in Coco Crisp according to MLBTR. He’s been worth 5 rWAR and 5.5 fWAR over the last two years. The Cubs reportedly want him to play left field. The Cubs already have Soriano, but the Cubs are interested in moving him, but whether or not anybody is interested in taking him is another issue altogether. Bill James projects a .330 wOBA from him in 2012. Crisp made just under $6 million last year and would probably make about the same in 2012. If he stays healthy he would more than likely be worth it.

The bidding for Yu Darvish ended at 4 pm today. The Cubs apparently did bid, but they aren’t believed to be the highest bid. No surprises there.

“Some of these kids don’t have basic hygiene skills,” attorney Karl Rominger, who recently joined Sandusky’s defense team, told Harrisburg’s abc27 News Tuesday. “Teaching a person to shower at the age of 12 or 14 sounds strange to some people, but people who work with troubled youth will tell you there are a lot of juvenile delinquents and people who are dependent who have to be taught basic life skills, like how to put soap on their body.”

As someone who has lived both lives, I can say that both come with their own set of unique pressures. But I will also say that even now when I get stressed about a deadline for an article, or nervous about a conference presentation, I calm myself with the thought that no one is going to shoot me and none my friends are going to get blown up if I don’t make that deadline or I flub the presentation. That’s not to say that college isn’t extremely stressful. It is, without a doubt. It’s just to say that there’s a totally different stress level when you are acutely aware that not only do your actions bear directly on whether or not you will live through the day, but also bear directly on whether or not 30-40 other people will live through the day.

that said god bless the troops and go america.
Yeah, the jingoism and exceptionalism gets old even for me. You’ll notice 99% of the military stuff I post on FB concerns veteran’s rights and the ways in which vets get fucked by the government. If people want to support the troops, look at the voting records on IAVA and DAV, and if your rep has a shitty voting record on vet’s rights (*cough*McCain*cough*), then call them and tell them to unfuck themselves.

It is an all-volunteer armed forces in theory; however, when you begin to look deeper into the socio-economic makeup of the military (and especially combat troops) and the way in which these men and women are recruited, you begin to wonder what “volunteer” might be taken to mean. So while I agree that this is largely a question of what sort of stresses might be entailed by the choice one makes, I also think that issue is far less cut-and-dried than most would think. And that’s largely because most people don’t really think about veteran’s issues. They slap a yellow sticker on the car and think they’ve done enough. But the veteran isn’t a real person to them. The faces of the men and the women don’t show up for them. So it’s easy to look at this in stark terms because it’s being engaged on a superficial and wholly uncritical level. But when you see the vet as a human, well, then you begin to realize that, just as with all things where people are involved, this issue is far more complex and layered than one might have thought at first.
Yet one more example of the dumbfuckery that occurs when one mixes personal identity and self-worth with the failures of a poorly run baseball team:

    http://www.bleachernation.com/2011/12/15/guest-post-aw-crap-could-i-actually-hate-theo-epstein/

The only question to ask here is: can Theo mend his broken heart?
This jumped out:

. The more I thought about the Cubs winning the World Series, the more I realized that it will be every bit about Theo as it is about the Cubs. The man who brought world championships to two cursed (I curse at curses) franchises. The man who was able to conquer the Bambino and the Goat. You know what? I don’t want that. And I’m not afraid to say it. For as long as I have been a Cubs fan, and as long as we have suffered as Cubs fans, I don’t want our World Series to be about Theo. It’s about us, the Cubs.

Look, Theo has every right to his legacy and I hope beyond hope he achieves part of it in Chicago with a Cubs World Series win, but I do not want it to overshadow how much more important it is to the Chicago Cubs and Cubs fans like us.

Jesus Christ, this fanbase is starved for a World Series, but now, it has to win a World Series in a certain way and manner? WTF.

Agent Scott Boras hasn’t explicitly stated Prince Fielder’s asking price, but one GM with some interest in the free agent first baseman says he knows the target figure. “Isn’t it obvious?,” the GM asked Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, implying that Fielder will look to surpass Albert Pujols’ $254MM deal.
