    cerulean,

I don’t remember the comments about not being able to stick at 3rd. I know some scouts said he may be too big and have to move to the outfield, but from what I remember, all agreed that for the time being he was just fine at 3rd.

Wasn’t Appel at the top of the Cubs draft board that year? If that was true, I’m glad the Astros went first.

    dmick89,

Consensus, probably. But I feel like I heard more than a few doubts from scouting reports and pundits.

I also thought the Cubs were focused on bats then, so Bryant would have been the top.

But then again, memory is faulty.

    cerulean,

Yeah, I remember some doubts about his long term ability to stick there, but given his size, I’ll be a little surprised if he’s still there in 3 or 4 years. Wherever he plays though, he’ll be quite valuable.

Hammel is doing pretty well. He has given up some solid contact, but curiously, the solid contact accounts for none of the hits. And with good control.

The ESPN crew has been going on about how shallow the Pirates’ outfielders play, and it’s definitely burned them a few times in this game.

Seriously, this is stupid. You have to throw strikes with the bases loaded. Grimm and Contreras keep trying to paint the corners and make the batters chase. He didn’t throw a single strike to McCutchen. Aggravating.
