Pirates 5, Cubs 4 (4/23/15)

OSS: Get well soon, Grimm and Ramirez

Three up:

Tough to find much that particularly stands out.

1. Kris Bryant had a perfect day in CF, going 0-0 on fly balls hit to him. He also drew a bases loaded walk in the fifth, in an inning where it felt like the Cubs should have gotten a lot more.

2. Addison Russell got his first career RBI on a double in the fourth inning.

3. Hendricks toughed out not having his best stuff and pitched into the sixth. I love how even when he doesn’t have it he still doesn’t walk anyone.

Three down:

1. The bullpen, oy. Hendricks ran out of gas in the 6th, so Edwin brought his own gas and threw it on the fire (okay, that analogy wasn’t really going where I thought it was…). Schlitter came in to bail out Jackson, then combined with Phil Coke in the next inning to give up the lead.

2. Castro tied for the worst WPA play of the day for the Cubs, grounding out with the bases loaded and one out in the fifth following Bryant’s BBRBI

3. Denorfia had the other one, a one-out TOOTBLAN trying to steal second with Rizzo at the plate in a tie game in the 7th.

Next game: at Cincinnati, Jon Lester vs Mike Leake, 6:10 PM CT
