OV Pic of the Day: Is It Friday Friday Yet?

In News And Rumors by aisle42476 Comments

It’s two Pics of the Day in a row for Blake Dewitt.  I’m sure he would be honored if he had any idea this part of the interwebz existed.

Anyway, the Cubs lost and Prince Fielder inched closer to Mike Schmidt as all-time Cubs killer extraordinaire.  But Blakey has even more problems.

We-we-we such a bad team. We such a bad team. We gonna lose again today…

Hilarious. Now i’m just looking forward to the Cubs finishing this series and getting on to doing some real good in the world by being swept by The Pirates, so they can make up for the injustice done by the “human element” known otherwise as tired umpires.

Had not seen that before. Was the ump able to justify doing his job while masturbating into his eyes?

I sprained my ankle with no breaks and nothing showing up on the MRI and it wasn’t right for over a month. Granted I’m not an athlete and don’t have trainers, but I can’t imagine him not going on the DL.

I guess Z said he wants to stay if there are changes. I think Z feels the same way everyone feels in regards to housecleaning etc.

shoemile: Good to hear about the draft and IFA spending. I wonder how it stacks up against other big market teams.

Alvin: I’m not 100% sure. But from what I heard, it seems fairly close.

shoemile: I hope so. That’s what more important to me.

Alvin: Really? Just the dollar amount? Not the quality of players signed?

Just so you know, Al’s sources have been wrong

more than they’ve been right. At least when he’s told us.

Of course, when it turns out they’re wrong, the rebuttal is “they were right AT THE TIME”

And Al, if you don’t want people to call you to the carpet when this happens, I would suggest not being so quick to rush into every thread where another writer uses unnamed sources and claim it’s unsubstantiated

by Nunyabidness on Jul 27, 2011 6:57 PM CDT upreply

You really think I want to post this stuff and get flamed here?

Really, if you think that’s the case, think again. I post info that I have that I know to be true at the time I’m told it.

So do other writers. They turn out to be wrong, too. Yet I get slammed, and these other tweets get breathlessly posted here.

Something’s wrong with this picture, and it ain’t me.

Yes, I have high standards too.

Those standards include not naming a source when I have been asked not to, and not divulging information that I have been asked to keep private.

You seem to think you’re above all that. Got news for you: you’re not.

I work my ass off trying to provide a site where everyone feels welcome, and to give out useful information when I get it. When I see posts from people like you, who have a know-it-all attitude (but really don’t), it … well, it makes me sad.

“Higher standards”. From you? I could say something, but I’m done.

    Believe it or not

… I don’t really like banning people. Some people just push me too far. When he goes and asks me to ban him — as he has — my reaction is to NOT do it. Why should I give in to a childish dare?

Carlos Zambrano told reporters, including Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune, that he wants to stay in Chicago as long as there is “change” (Twitter link). The right-hander, who is available in trades, did not specify what kind of change he’s looking for.

Though he did follow that up by saying, “Look out, you rock-n-rollers.”

if this is how he is right now then he is utterly useless. He’s struggling in a harder league in AAA. Moving up up to the bigs is a mistake. He’s young. He’s still developing. Leave him be.

If the Cubs are going to use a platoon this year it needs to be Johnson/Colvin.

I think he’d make a good two-gapping 5-technique that would free up their OLB. Basically, opposing teams would have to put four OL on Wilfork and Haynesworth.

I hear you, but I just think Quade will trot out everyone he can before he gives Colvin regular ABs. Blake DeWitt will become the every day RF before Colvin will.

At the time of the draft, I thought he would struggle to hit pro pitching. To be fair, though, I didn’t think he’d make it at AA. He proved me wrong, but what he’s doing in AAA right now is what I thought he’d do at the ML level.

I think he’s just in a bad streak right now. I think he’s better than what he’s showing at AAA, but this is what he is.

In return, they’ll get Triple-A right-handed reliever Carlton Smith, who has a 4.50 earned-run average, and Class-A outfielder Abner Abreu, who is hitting .244.
