    bunt

Figured we should post that image since MO is against bunts at all times and because the image makes me laugh. MGL talks about a specific situation in which a bunt is not a good idea at all. The best part:

Given that a win costs around 4 million dollars, a manager should be fined $40,000 dollars every time he asks his pitcher to bunt with 1 out and runners on 1 and 3!

I wonder if that would stop some of the highest paid managers from doing it.

I hate that bunt situation. I understand that it prevents a double play, or at least is supposed to, but at the same time it’s just annoying. And I’m glad there’s some math to back it up now!

That’s just a silly situation in which to bunt.

It seems like a large percentage of the time, that situation leads to a double play, too. Probably because the infielders get a jump on coming in for it.

I’d love to see some org do that, if only for the uproar when some player that’s pissed off with his manager deliberately bunts in that situation (dying laughing).

I think that happened to Art Howe once and he had to convince Billy Beane that the player did it on his own and he had nothing to do with it as a manager haha.
