Note to Travis Wood—don’t shape your beard underneath your jaw, especially if you are growing long hair. Trim it, yes. Shape it, no.

(Because I cannot criticize anything about his performance right now.)

Quiet. The beard is his power. Don’t fuck with the beard.

Hell Wood looked good too. I somewhat trust Cahill, and if the pen can get on a roll, I think this team can continue to win some postseason games. I’m feeling more positive about this one , though I know it’s gonna get dicey at some point. The beer-per-inning seems to be helping

We shouldn’t have so many pitchers hit on a day when the starter is pulled so early and the game is this close.

I agree with this analysis. But I imagine Joe likes Wood matchup-wise the next inning more than Cahill.

I also imagine he’d like to construct a bridge to Rondon that does not require him to use Strop.

Wood bats and then faces one batter. I’ll never understand why a manager would do that.

Made more sense when Joe Mather was your big bench bat. Still little sense, but a little more.

    dmick89,

Maybe he decided to leave him in until someone got a hit? Like if he K’s the side, he stays in. Managers are basically blackjack players. Follow a run until your luck runs out.

    He’s out. God, fuck.

Cahill can go eat a bag of dicks. Fucking failed at the Justin Grimm portion of his challenge.

Fuck TBS and their worthless production. Just spent two minutes arguing with the guy next to me that the game wasn’t tied because it had runners on first and second.

Pat says there’s just a little “zephyr of a breeze”.

I’ve never before heard anyone use the word zephyr in casual conversation.

    Josh,

    According to Wikipedia:

A west wind is a wind that blows from the west, in an eastward direction. In Western tradition, it has usually been considered the mildest and most favorable of the directional winds.

Outs are so hard from here on out. Every single one. So difficult. The ring has gotten so heavy, Sam.

I don’t like La Stella trying to do a Schwarb impersonation. Just put the ball in play, little man.

ARE THE CUBS ONLY ABLE TO SCORE BY (BUNCHES OF) HOME RUN(s) NOW?

    Runs not on homers:

1 of 4 in the WC game.
    0 of 0 in game 1.
    4 of 6 in game 2.
    0 of 8 in game 3.
    1 of 6 today.

    Pretty much.

I’m not against bunting generally, but there were 2 RISP and the infield was pulled in. Swing, damn it!

Agreed. That’s why you bunt sometimes—to draw them in and make the odds of a hit better.

I liked the two safety squeezes the other day because it was a giant surprise. This time everyone in the park knew that was coming, and bunting a 100 mph fastball is not a good idea.
