    Rice Cube,

I hope not. Because that’s a stupid philosophy. Play the best available players.

I think you could make an argument that the Cubs really are playing their best lineup given the circumstances. It also happens to be a lineup that should minimize runs allowed.

    Rice Cube,

I’m not aware of any evidence that facing a great pitcher like Kershaw makes it a good idea to shift priorities from offense to defense. You still have to score runs to win.

    Rice Cube,

Or, Soler is really hurt. Perhaps it’s a leg thing where he can hit but not play the field.

Another option would have been playing Ross with Contreras in LF. Although playing Grandpa on 1 days rest could be a little risky.

    SK,

Soler has not looked good moving. If he’s not injured, he’s liable to injure his “not injured” self. He looks in the field like Heyward looks at the plate.

54% seems high. Probably gets a bonus for being the home team and getting to bat last?

538 uses a weighted variation of Game Score for the starting pitcher combined with with home field advantage, travel, and rest to adjust the overall team Elo rating—the Cubs have 55 points in their rating before the pitcher adjustments and home field puts them 22 points ahead.

Seen at Wrigley Field: a guy wearing a Mark Prior jersey.

    It’s a bold strategy, Cotton.

My daughter (not at the game) is wearing her Michael Barrett shirsey.

It would appear from the commercials that listeners of the Cubs’ flagship radio station the Score are all incontinent tax delinquents with bad credit.

    Come on, Cubs.

    SK,

Yeah, if there’s any time I’m not going to complain about a hitter expanding his strike zone, it’s with a runner on third and one out

Not sure if it’s coming through on the TV, but the crowd here is heckling the hell out of Kershaw. Shades of Cueto against the Pirates.

If I were watching Kershaw for the first time, I’d say “good fastball, breaking pitches need work.”

I’m simulcasting the radio feed, but I can imagine Joe Buck is waxing poetic about the great dignity in which Kershaw is losing.

I had to come back and enjoy this moment with you folks. My kids are sitting on the edge of their seats. They have no idea what I’m feeling right now, you guys do.

Chapman is the rational move, but the fan in me wants more Hendricks.

Probably. But I’m so scared right now. One of the best closers of our era, pitching for us, and I’m hating the move.

Is it just the media people speculating on Schwarber playing in the WS? I can’t see it. Doesn’t the taxi squad only play two days a week?

It’s not. Theo said it’s on the table.

Everyone is speculating on it. Theo and Jed also didn’t really rule it out. I think it’s a long shot.

I think he’s playing. I think Theo was trying not to jinx game 6. Seriously.

I think Jed and Theo have been masterful at keeping the media guessing. Smoltz nailed it, you can’t bring him back with no timing, no trigger point and no game experience for an entire season. I think.
