  • 10 teams have shown interest in Ryan Dempster

Bruce Levine says 10 teams have shown interest in Ryan Dempster.

With a little more than two weeks until baseball's trade deadline, 10 teams have shown legitimate interest in acquiring Dempster's services for the remainder of the season, according to industry sources. Those clubs include the Los Angeles DodgersCleveland IndiansDetroit Tigers,New York YankeesChicago White Sox and Atlanta Braves.

The Cubs have started, in earnest, to look at minor league players at the lower levels of almost every farm system. The organization is looking for young pitching in return for its veteran players, but according to a baseball source who has inquired about trading with the Cubs, a well regarded third-base prospect is also very high on their wish list.

Interesting the Cubs are looking for a highly regarded 3rd base prospect. What does that say about Josh Vitters?

I think it says they don’t think Vitters is ready and are looking for a more polished prospect. Even if Vitters has finally figured things out at the plate, he’s still a slow footed player with questionable defense at 3B.

I also think this says very little about Josh Vitters. There’s a big difference between “a well regarded third-base prospect is also very high on their wish list” and “the Cubs want a third-base prospect out of the deal.”

Besides, prospects break your heart. Looking for a prospect at a position that you already have a prospect at doesn’t mean anything other than you know the odds are against all prospects.

      @ shawndgoldman:
True, but why focus on 3rd? The Cubs have Vitters right now. Lake could be moved to 3rd. Baez will be moved to 3rd. I’m guessing this is either a bullshit comment or the Cubs are thinking Vitters is more of a LF when they get rid of Soriano.
