    Iowa

Do any of you really care how Alfredo Amezaga is doing? I don't.

    Smokies

Junior Lake went 2-4 with a double. Nobody else did shit.

    Daytona

    Rain

    Peoria

Peoria played a 14 inning shit fest that was highlighted by Yao Ling Wang's continuing dominance on the mound. Last night Wang struck out 10 batters over 6 IP allowing only a solo HR. Wang now has 68 K's in 57.1 IP and is holding opponents to a .218 BA. He is now our top pitching prospect imho.

    Boise

Gioskar Amaya can do it all. Last night he stole home for his 11th steal of the year in addition to going 1-3 with a BB. On the power side Dan Vogelbach hit his 3rd HR in as many days and in my opinion should be a top 100 prospect heading into next year. If you are a bat only 1B you have to really hit to matter and Vogelbach has certainly done that as he has 11 HR's in 157 pro AB's. Rock Shoulders hit a grand slam out of the entire stadium last night which is also cool.

    AZL

Dillon Maples struck out 3 batters in 2 scoreless innings of work. According to every AZ players twitter account Albert Almora made the greatest over the shoulder catch EVER! And Jorge Soler is getting talk of a call up despite hitting .241.

Agreed that Vogelbach should be a top 100 next year. The guy can hit. Fielding is a huge question mark, but it was for Prince Fielder too and it didn’t keep him out. I’m not saying this guy is Prince Fielder, but he just might be Prince Fielder. (dying laughing)

I saw a few folks refer to him as “White Prince Fielder” around when he was drafted.

      @ Rice Cube:
Yeah, he’s going to be compared to him throughout his career. It’s unreasonable to expect him to be as good as Fielder has become, but the guy can fucking hit baseballs really really well. He’ll have to keep doing it and if there’s anything that will keep him out of the top 100 it’s that he’s still only at Boise.

Fielder was a level higher at the same age and was more highly rated entering the draft and entering that season. Still, I think we’ll see Vogelbach in the top 100

We should multiply R+RBI by AVG, I think.

you sure can make a case for Amaya as well. Not alot of 19 year old MI’s with an OPS over .900

      @ Aisle424:
Weird. He hasn’t really hit all that well in AZL and he’s skipping a level? Above average wRC+ though. Solid walk rate, but a rather high strikeout rate for someone who is 20 years old in the AZL. Power OK, but not impressive. Why not send him to Boise?

I think both you and I are very high on Amaya and looking back on our prospect rankings I’m thinking he probably deserved a little higher. Oh well, we’ll do it again this offseason. It’s also nice to see Szczur starting to hit after slumping when he got to AA.

I’m liking Soler’s discipline so far. It’s better than I thought it would be. Actually, he’s performed better than I expected, but probably not as well as the Cubs were expecting considering the level he’s at and the money they spent. It will be interesting to see how he performs in Peoria. Based on the numbers, which is of course a small part at this point, I won’t be surprised if he struggles.

    15. dylanj 15 dylanj says:

With the Cubs up 5-2 with one out in the top of the 9th and with Dodger runners at 2nd and 3rd and the tying run at the plate, CF Albert Almora made a brilliant Willie Mays style catch, racing full-speed with his back to the infield and catching a towering fly ball basket-style just as he hit the CF Batter’s Eye, before turning around 180 degrees and (without having time to measure the throw) firing a strike to 2nd base that doubled Alex Santana off base for the final out of the game.

A truly amazing play by the Cubs 2012 #1 draft pick.
