Brett Jackson went 2-4 and DID NOT STRIKEOUT! Hopefully bizzaro Jackson can keep that up. Anthony Rizzo hit a double but did not hit another HR so basically he is the batting equivalent of NOT AN ACE! One interesting fact about Iowa is that our bullpen is currently the land of misfit RP's. Retreads like Manual Corpas, Nate Robertson, Mike MacDougal are all resisting the inevitable trip to Japan by spending one more summer in the Des Moines sun. Sadly for us all of them are pitching like shit.
Since this guy is the pretty much the only reason to follow the AA team lets just skip right to it- he went 2-4 and was caught stealing.
The Greg of Rohan hit another HR and Hayden Simpson continues to beg for his outright release. In just 2.1 IP Simpson walked 4, gave up 4 hits and only struck out 1 batter. Somehow the other team only scored 1 run.
Oliver Zapata went 3-4 with a pair of RBI's and Marco Hernandez got a pair of hits to raise his batting average over .200. If Phil Rogers is to be believed Javier Baez will get the SS spot in a few weeks so Hernandez could be heading down to Boise. Kyle(r) Burke had another great start only giving up a pair of hits in 6 IP. Burke needs to head up.

Overall Lake is having a good season of course his BB/K is coming back to earth.
Adam Jones close to signing 6 year $85 milliion dollar extension. Seems like a win win for both.
Is Adam jones that good?
Via MLBTR, I thought this was interesting:

Depends on which one you’re talking about, but yes. Also, odds are he is Welsh and likes rugby:

Reverse standings are now located where the Superfriends use to be.
@ Aisle424:
Stupid Twins.
@ mb21:
He’s either having a Matt Kemp style breakout season, or he’s a flash in the pan. There’s good reason to think it might be the latter, from what I’ve read. He’s already been worth nearly 3 fWAR this season.
@ Aisle424:
Too damn funny,
@ WenningtonsGorillaCock:
I was obviously talking about the Welsh international rugby union player playing for the Ospreys.
@ mb21:
If he continues to hit like he has been this year……..yes. He’s only 26 and plays a pretty good CF.
I love the way the table looks 424.
I think the O’s could actually compete in the near future. The Indians looked all right the first half of last year and petered out, but they were riding a lot of improbably high batting averages (and lost Shin-Soo Choo). The O’s have some legitmately good young players. They could be cycling back up to the top as the Bosox and Yanks get old.
Man, I just looked at the standings and didn’t realize the Brewers sucked almost as much as the Cubs.
@ Mucker:
Let’s just say Ryan Braun has to be a little more “careful” this season.
@ josh:
Plus if they extend Weiters, in about 2-3 years they are looking at a core of Jones, Weiters, Markakis, Machado, Bundy and the rest of that young pitching staff. Orioles look primed for a run in a couple of years.
“Somehow the other team only scored 1 run.”
Somehow nothing. Haven’t you seen how popular re-enacting is in the South? Clearly the other team wasa reenacting a Cubs team from the late 70s, or early 90s or last year, or last week.
@ Mucker:
They at least have an excuse of injuries

Have they already sent Concepcion to the pen? It’s his spot in the rotation yet they have Starling Peralta as tonights starter. I was excited as it looked like Concepcion was finally starting to turn it around.
@ Pezcore:
In his last 15 innings he’s walked 11 and struck out 6.
I don’t think it matters for Concepcion. He sucks and will probably suck in relief too.

Josh, what random island are the two beer drinking guys sitting on?
@ Berselius:
Deck Chairs —–> Burned to ash.
@ Rice Cube:
I imagine they’re sitting at The Point in Hyde Park, you know, if it didn’t have all that concrete and bullshit when you sat by the lake staring out. I lived in Hyde Park for a year, and I loved walking out there. So it’s like the The Point’s wet dream of itself.
@ josh:
My first thought was of the Point. I live like two blocks away. Nice place to hang out and picnic.
@ Rice Cube:
Oh that’s right, because you are at UC. We lived in the Windermere House on 56th. I worked at UC Press and my wife worked at the Graduate Finaid office at UC.

I wish the cubs actually had a decent lineup so I could complain about Castro hitting 3rd all season. Then I see joe Mather 3rd and I want to complain Castro isn’t hitting 3rd. (dying laughing)
@ mb21:
Castro hitting third isn’t bad when there’s a southpaw pitching, at least.
@ Berselius:

@ ACT:
I’d consider hitting him 4th with a lefty on the mound.

This should be a response to the last post about Epstein, but I’m behind. Hoyer and McLeod apparently built the Padres system into one of the best in MLB in 2 seasons. They traded alot of players and made good draft picks, I think.
@ Mercurial Outfielder:
Stephen Fry speaks for all Cubs fans.
@ Suburban kid:
I can’t wait for Sveum to fall in love with No Finger Hill and play him way too much.
@ Mercurial Outfielder:
Done deal.
I’m feeling pretty psyched about this 3-day weekend. Not about the Cubs, but like…. life.
@ josh:
You must have not hired Koyie Hill to build your shed.
I’m going to laugh if the orioles win it all. Andy MacPhail will have built of helped build 3 world champions and none were the cubs.
The cubs finally face an offense that the cubs are better than.
@ mb21:
By a crazy random happenstance, that is a team that has not faced the Cubs bullpen yet (dying laughing)
Judging from his interview today on The Score, someone has provided Tommy Boy with a copy of Atlas Shrugged
