Diory Hernandez went 1-5. Who is Diory Hernandez? Exactly.
Jae Hoon Ha was 2-3 with a BB and has really been on a hot streak for the last few weeks. Ha also gunned down a runner at the plate. Junior Lake went 2-4 and is hitting .286. Trey McNutt pitched a clean inning out of the bullpen. I wonder if we will see him in September.

No Game
Tim Saunders just keeps hitting and went 2-4 last night. The D3 product has just pissed on the ball since he was drafted although yesterday BA's Jim Callis mentioned he may not stick at SS and the Cubs have tried him out at several positions so far. Knuckleballer Joe Zeller gave up 5 ER in 6 IP.
Dan Vogelbach went 3-4 with a BB and his 9th HR which was a massive shot to dead center. His OPS in Boise is currently 1.104. Stephen Bruno collected 3 hits and a pair of walks and is hitting .340. Marco Hernandez was 1-3 with a BB and hit his 5th HR of the year as well. Hernandez has recovered from a pretty bleak stint in Peoria to start the year. Hopefully his return next season goes better.
Paul Blackburn had a great start striking out 4 in 4 and only allowing a pair of hits. Blackburn has 12 K's in 17.2 IP.

Does this sound familiar?
So I guess the moral of the story is that Iowa sucks?

Looks like it will next year, too. There are like, what, 2 people who may get called up?

Only place I’ve seen this so far…so I have no idea if it could even be true:

How have the prospects the Cubs got back in trades been doing?

If it would ever stop raining in Florida, this one might be able to show you how well he’s doing:

I think Peoria and Kane County were blind sided by the news of the Cubs switching low-A facilities.

It’s odd that it didn’t really have any info on the woman. What caused it? Did she just stop breathing because she had a seizure? Was she epileptic?

Garza —> 60-day DL? Wow.
@ Rice Cube:
A visit to Dr. Andrews cannot be far in the offing.
@ Mercurial Outfielder:
I wonder if they can negotiate a smaller extension since he was sucking a bit this year (bad luck/shitty variance) and he’s now injured. I’m pretty sure he’s gone to untradeable now.
@ Mercurial Outfielder:
I think you’re reading too much into this. Even if he was going to be out for just a month, why not shut him down for the rest of the season? It’s only 5 weeks or so until it’s over, and 60-day DL will be gone come next year.
@ Rice Cube:
That’s just to open a roster spot since guys on 60 day DL can be replaced. Since he’s out for the year this was inevitable.
@ Rice Cube:
Why sign someone to a long term contract when they’re injured? If they aren’t tradeable you probably shouldn’t be locking the guy up long term.
@ Berselius:
Agreed. Who knows what’s up, but this is just to open a spot on the roster. It probably means they’ll be adding to it in September.
@ Berselius:
@ mb21:
We’ll see. I bet he doesn’t pitch for the Cubs again until 2014.
@ Mercurial Outfielder:
That’s entirely possible, but I don’t think putting him on the 60-day DL has anything to do with any new information about his injury.
@ Berselius:
Probably not, but I’ve suspected their downplaying of the severity of this injury from the get-go.
@ Mercurial Outfielder:
That’s a safe bet. I think all sports injuries are downplayed, but surgery doesn’t seem necessary at this point so I’d assume he’ll be healthy to start the year.

Get it right or pay the price.
didnt one of you beer fags mention Hennepin the other day? I found a dusty 4 pack in my local store. Does it bring the thunder?
@ dylanj:
Hennepin is really, really good.
do you just serve it from the bottle or refrigerate it?
Aaron Cook is pitching today!
@ Rizzo the Rat:
We can be almost assured that he…
*puts on sunglasses*
…won’t strike out.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH
@ Rice Cube:
He has fewer strikeouts per start than Brett Jackson.
@ dylanj:
Hennepin > all other beer
@ Mercurial Outfielder:
Nice fan shot.
OK. The game should have been going about 20 min by now. Do I open a tab for Gameday to see how Rusin is doing, or not? Decisions, decisions…..
If I do, it just means I have to wait around for the 5 R he’s going to give up. If I don’t, I won’t know that he’s given them up, so I’ll keep thinking about surfing to Gameday. ARRRGGGHHH, why is life so difficult?
Aaron Cook has 4 strikeouts today, more than doubling his previous high this season. He’s also allowed 10 hits and has a throwing error.
I hate people.
@ Rice Cube:
“It’s just Max.”

Can someone explain why Josh Vitters keeps batting 2nd? I guess when you have 4 or 5 7/8 hitters you have to put guys in spots they don’t belong.
The Brewers announcers were wondering if Aramis could win the Gold Glove. No. No he can’t.

Four runs on two hits!
39% strikeout rate for Vitters and a 46% strikeout rate for Jackson. (dying laughing)
The Cubs have 2 hits and 12 strikeouts today.
It’s almost as if the Cubs are terrible or something.
@ Rizzo the Rat:
A new era of Cubs baseball is upon us.
The position players have 1 hit, 1 walk and 12 strikeouts.
Castillo now has 3 passed balls in less than 180 innings behind the plate. The Cubs catchers have 7 this entire season. He’s been behind the plate when 5 wild pitches have been thrown. The Cubs have 26 as a team.
Dude cannot stop a baseball from getting past him.
This was nice for the new guy:

@ dylanj:
I like it at room temperature better than refrigerated. I found the 4-pack last time I was at the beer store and I was very happy, as we previously only had the big 750mL bottle, which is good, but to be honest it gets my fairly intoxicated.
To me, it doesn’t taste as good cold. You could may be refigerate it for just a little while first, but I really like it room temp.
@ josh:
Same. It should be served at 50-60 degrees.
Watching replays from last night and a) what is Rusin, like 12? b) that kid has a really nice swing for a pitcher.
@ Mercurial Outfielder:
Right, that’s what it says on the bottle, too. But I’m not really sure how to get it that temp, and I prefer it slightly too warm than too cold.
@ josh:
Best way is to buy a small chest freezer and temp it, but I buy it warm and stick it in the freezer for 10 minutes, pour, let it rest and then drink it.
@ Mercurial Outfielder:
Cool, that’s what I do.
Rizzo the Rat wrote:
No, but it’s still funny.
Holy shit. The Brewers release Randy Wolf.
The exclamation isn’t so much about his performance, but about the fact that he was supposed to be the guy who would stabilize that rotation and now he’s being kicked to the curb.
Baseball is the cruelest sport.
@ josh:
(dying laughing) I didn’t even know he was still playing.
@ mb21:
I was thinking that too. I think he must have been hurt or something. Or he’s just sucked.
@ josh:
yeah i said “holy shit” too but it was more like “holy shit, randy wolf is still alive” than “holy shit, randy wolf was unsuccessful in stabilizing the rotation.”
@ EnricoPallazzo:
I guess I’m just surprised that he was dropped. Not that he was great, but he had some effective years to be unceremoniously dumped like that. I mean, do the Cubs know that this is an option?
I don’t know, I guess I have a friend who’s a Brewers fan, and I remember him being excited about Wolf. Didn’t work out.
OK, fine, I’ll go sit in the corner wearing the DERP hat.
Truest. Comic. Ever.

@ EnricoPallazzo:
josh – it’s a combination of the fact that he’s been playing full time since i was in high school, which seems like a really fucking long time ago, plus the fact that i have blocked the last few years of MLB from my memory. i guess that’s why i figured that he had retired a while back.
but you’re right, he’s not actually super old and his numbers look pretty decent up until this season. hell, he can’t be worse than [insert current cubs pitcher here].
@ EnricoPallazzo:
I remember him pitching last year, but was confused why. He reminds me of Wandy Rodriguez. Any time you look at the numbers they’re much better than you’d think, but when you watch the player you can’t figure out why he’s playing baseball.
@ EnricoPallazzo:
I meant “this is an option” as in “they could dump players who suck,” but I could see them picking him up for cheap.
new shit up
