Josh Vitters hit his 13th HR of the year Brett Jackson had his required 2 k's (21 in his last 38 AB's) and Rizzo got the fuck out of town.
Junior Lake was 2-4 and I'm about to officially consider him a prospect. Alot of people have before this year but I never did considering he never really was good at sports. But this year he is & he is still young.
Kevin Rhoderick was terrible and has been for the last few weeks. Which sucked because he was the best bullpen arm we had. Even our RP have taken a step back this year. OUR PITCHING IS TERRIBLE.
Alcantara hit his 4th HR of the year and Matt Loosen struck out 7 in 6 IP while allowing a pair of runs.
Matt Szzrzrz is back and went 2-4 with a pair of walks and his 22nd stolen base. His OPB is a 100 points higher than his BA and I'm pretty exited for him. Don't see much power but a guy with speed who gets on base and plays a good CF is alright with me. Kyle(r) Burke moved up and allowed 3 ER in 5 IP.
Zach Cates has come back from his demotion to baseball school in AZ and was meh working 4.1 scoreless innings but only striking out 1 guy. Zachary Rosscup made his 2012 debut and struck out 2 in 2.1 IP. Rosscup came in the Garza deal and was doing well in Daytona before he got hurt last summer. He's probably our best prospect by default because again, our pitching is atrocious.
Gioskar Amaya is quickly becoming my favorite prospect and last night he continued to tear up SS going 2-4 with a double. Jose Arias stuck out 3 in 5 IP and Jeimer Candelario was 1-3.
Dan Vogelbach was 1-4 with a double and is slugging .643 so far. All our pitchers sucked except some guy named Shane Lindsay. But he has a girls name so fuck him.

Where is the poll asking us to predict Rizzo’s RBIs?

Why not do the better stat?
sdg, the problem with translations is the huge selection bias, overperformers get moved up levels and underperformers get moved down.
If you have some free time, here is a breakdown from mgl.
http://www.insidethebook.com/ee/index.php/site/comments/why_mles_are_a_mess/
I’ll set the over/under for Rizzo’s RBIs tonight at 12.
I’ll take the over.
Whoever this Hank Aaron guy was, he’s 3rd all time on grounding into double plays. Sounds like he cared more about his own stats than helping his team win. He’s not even in the top 250 all time in sac hits and sac flies.
Career stats tell me all I need to know about baseball.
@ Steve Swisher:
Shouldn’t you use 11.5 or 12.5? What if he gets exactly 12 RBI? Then nobody wins! Except hopefully the Cubs.
Francescon gave up 2 ER in 6 IP today. That fucker
@ Edwin:
Yeah, like the Cubs are going to lose in Rizzo’s debut!
Jeez. Some people.
Another day, another K for Brett Jackson. They should work on that.
Paul Sackville-Baggins is sharpening his knives for Dale Sveum
http://www.bleachernation.com/2012/06/26/is-dale-sveum-rubbing-the-media-the-wrong-way/
How was Lake not good at baseball?
Level: wOBA, wRC+
R: .358, 108
A: .291, 77
A+: .337, 110
A+: .383, 136
AA: .325, 92
AA: .375, 131
He plays SS, has been young for his level and above average at the plate. He’s been both a prospect and good at baseball for awhile.
What ever Sveum is doing to piss off Sullivan, I hope he keeps it up. I’d much rather that the knives are out on someone as inconsequential as a manager than an actual baseball player like Castro, Soriano, Soto, Garza, etc.
@ Berselius:
It’s not even midseason yet. There are plenty of knives in Sullivan’s bag.

@ Berselius:
What does Nick Cafardo think of Dale Sveum?
Somehow I dont think Sullivan would survive if he had to cover an NFL coach like Belichek or Jim Harbaugh.
Three strikeouts for B-Jax…good gravy.
Rizzo -> batting 3rd
@ dylanj:
Interesting. Tell me, could such a thing be arranged?
lineup
DeJesus
Castro
Rizzo
Adolfo
LaHair
Valbuena
Barney
Clevenger
Wells
@ Berselius:
Hey, Rizzo got called up!? Twitter’s totally silent about it.
I hate JD honey. I thought it might be good but it stinks. Especially if not served chilled

KG’s predicted slashline for Rizzo: .275/.331/.485
Cubs pissing all over the legacy of Roberto Novoa by giving Vitters #44 (h/t cubbiejulie)
@ WaLi22:
Same experience. Even chilled it was kind of gross after about one drink. Then it got a little better on drinks 3-15. Then I don’t know, it morphed into some kind of monster and I threw it at a cop.
Berselius wrote:
Odd they’d assign a number to someone they haven’t called up yet.

Moyer ———> minor league deal with Jays
@ Berselius:
It seemed that none of the regular beat guys made the connection with Mather’s number change to Sosa, though Pat and Keith did mention Sosa as one of the most famous Cubs to ever wear #21. Mather himself said it was a tribute to Roberto Clemente.
It’s still annoying that they won’t at least reserve #21 for players that don’t suck, though.
Since this seems to be the highlight of the season, we’ll actually have both a game thread AND a chat for tonight’s game
@ Berselius22:
A hot ghey chat?
MLBTR says the bidding for Puig may begin by July 2.
@ Mercurial Outfielder:
I hope they run it like an olde tyme auction because if they don’t have him sign a contract by then he’s not getting paid…
@ Berselius22:
Assuming I’m not reduced to a pile of goo in my car/furnace
Has Rizzo hit a homer yet? No? God, what a fucking bust.
BCS ———–> Dead. 4-team seeded playoffs are a go.

Yep, at least this kid is old enough to sell beer in the bleachers. The only backup plan for Castro was his rumored maybe above average speed.
OK. Based on this comment, I’m making my own lineup for tonight, dammit.
LaHair: Because I miss the potential for leading off the game with a home run that Soriano gave up back in the day.
Clevenger: WhyTF not. Despite slump, he seems to know how to handle the bat sometimes. Might as well put the slow guys up top, the opposite isn’t working. Besides, when Clev bats this high in the order, the Cubs win.
Castro
Rizzo
Adolfo
DeJesus
Barney: For some reason, Barney from Jesus just sounds right to me.
3rd Base: Totally agree with Berselius. Mather at least has an OBP >.300, but Valbuena might as well get more reps. Just keep Baker on the bench.
Campana. Yeah, I know, I need a pitcher. But look, Wells isn’t anything to write home about and Jamie Moyer can sign with 3 ML teams at 49 y.o. I figure Campana’s arm and potential control equal Wells+Moyer and if he hits a few batters, he’ll get hit himself and then he’ll be on base, where he’s best.
Speed at the bottom sets up LaHair.
yeah, it’s BS, but the Cubs had Quade and Essian setting line ups….

PS: Once I download the pix from my BB, I’ll update the NC BBQ discussion from Retro Rice Cube.
When you see it…

Thanks, Rizzo!
@ Berselius:
Excellent. Had some DuPont last night. So, so good.
Just thought I’d throw this out there: The Rockies best SP in terms of ERA and BAA is Drew Pomeranz 5GS; 4.70 ERA; .281 BAA
Don’t ask me why I was looking at Rockies SPs. I don’t know either.
One more random thought. By now, I’m pretty sure that a Google search beginning with “S” and followed by any combination of z’s, c’s, and r’s will return OV as the first hit, thanks to DJ.
