    Iowa

Top pitching prospect Seth McClung was outstanding yesterday striking out 6 over 7 scoreless innings. We'll keep an eye on this kid as it seems like he has a bright future.

    Smokies

Jae Hoon Ha went 2-4 and Trey McNutt worked a scoreless inning out of the pen. Allen Webster (remember him?) struck out 8 of our guys in 6 IP.

    Daytona

    Another. Fucking. Rainout.

    Peoria

Jorge Soler went 3-4 with all three hits being singles. Jeffry Antigua struck out 5 in 5.2 IP. The other week I was asking why a guy with his #'s was getting demoted and Twitter might have provided an answer. One of the guys from Cubs Den (who are way better at this minor league thing than the fucker this blog uses) tweeted that Antigua's velocity has decreased to the 84-87 mph range this season. Hayden Simpson probably gave the poor guy mono.

    Boise

Gioskar Amaya continues to be my love crush by virtue of his being really really good at sports. Last night he went 3-4 with his 7th HR. The other day KG mentioned that the reason you shouldn't get excited about short season stats is every team has a guy just like the one you like. Well fuck that, you go find 31 other 19 yr old second basemen who have hit like this. This kid is top 100 period. Vogelbach was hitless but worked a pair of walks to keep that OBP up.

    AZL Game 1

Shawon Dunston was 2-3 and raised his average to .298. Jeffery Baez (no relation to Javier) was promoted from DSL and went 1-3 with a SB. Baez is speedster who hopefully projects as a leadoff type.

    Game 2

Duane Underwood struck out 3 in 3 IP while allowing zero runs. Justin Marra was 2-2 with a BB hitting in the DH slot.

I’m thinking Swisher should ask Jermaine Dye how to negotiate outrageous contract demands.

Also, is our sponsor a candle? I could use a few extras of those tonight when Isaac blows the power lines down.

I think it is an uncircumcised penis. Or a penis without a head.

      Via Miles:

Hope you caught the Daily Herald’s coverage of the impending shift of the Cubs’ Midwest League affiliate from Peoria to Kane County. The Cubs remain tight-lipped as they face possible heavy fines for talking about such a move. Kevin Capie of the Peoria Journal Star also mentioned the Cub might not be out of the woods as far as possible discipline goes:

“The Major League rules, which govern the business of baseball, stipulate a $500,000 fine for major league teams and a $100,000 fine for minor league teams that publicly discuss future re-affiliation agreements,” Capie wrote. “If the report (of the move) is correct that the Cubs and Cougars are close to an agreement, however, the two organizations still would have violated Rule 56 of the rules.

“Either the parent club or affiliate must present written notification either to the office of the commissioner or the president of Minor League Baseball at the conclusion of the season. Negotiations outside of the existing relationship cannot begin until Sept. 16. This is to protect the existing relationships through the season. The Chiefs have only a seven-game homestand, starting Saturday, remaining this season at O’Brien Field. The Chiefs close the season at Kane County….”

It would be great if the Royals (it’s the Royals, right?) got stuck with the fine since the Cubs usually don’t leak stuff.

Hm, sounds like speculation of speculation. Is it possible that what’s being reported as a shift is really just internal communication within the org? I.e., “We all agree that we should draw up a plan to approach the Kane County Cougars.”

I’m not siding with the team, I’m just saying that’s two logical leaps in one to get to the conclusion that there has been a rule violation.

In this age of lawyers as thick as the Labrea tar pits, I’m skeptical of a team ‘accidentally’ violating a pretty clear law.

There’s three reasons why people break rules:
      1) Ignorance
      2) $$$
      3) Sex

As far as I know, there aint a lotta fuckin in minor league baseball so that narrows it down.

I guess what I was asking is what money could be involved that would make the Cubs do this? It sounds like the penalty will be high enough when they could have just waited a few weeks and not paid shit. It seems like something is missing from the story.

Why do you people insist on asking unknowable questions? Like how much we owe Carlos Silva, or what Aramis Ramirez’s contract stipulates if he’s traded, or what the benefit to breaking a rule like this would be for the Cubs? If God wanted you to know these things, the answers would be in The Bible.

Just checking Fangraphs, and they have him listed as a -4.1 career fielder. But they have it as Fld. Did Fangraphs drop UZR?

EDIT: I read that wrong, he’s a -16.6 for his career, the -4.1 was his projection for this year.

I have to say it’s about f’n time they got rid of those Scouts. The one guy, Zisk, has been feeding us crap for years as a secret agent for Reinsdorph. Those other guys? All they do is drive around and point broken light sabers at people, tring to act all important and fancy with their K/BB and BA-RISPs. Blah blah blah. When did they last hit one out to right? Never? Exactly. And what kind of Scout isn’t even prepared? Have you seen their expense reports? Leeches on the system, I say. Good riddance.
