  • ALCS Preview: Tigers vs. Yankees

I didn't get around to doing a preview for this series so I'm going to link to one that is far better than anything I could have done. SG does fantastic work on RLYW and based on the Oliver projections he's calculated that the Tigers have a 50.3% chance of winning the series. Basically, flip a coin.

Ugh, when is he going to learn that he needs to move runners over? *shakes head*

Eck doesn’t care how ridiculous he looks. His haircut was good enough in 1975 and it’s good enough now.

One could argue that a monster homer is the best and most stress-free way to move a runner over :)

I’m surprised the Cubs haven’t made a baserunning mistake or two on a home run. It’s actually quite surprising.

Good comment here from MGL in response to something Dave Cameron wrote, but the last line just made me shake my head: http://www.insidethebook.com/ee/index.php/site/comments/is_side_arming_darren_oday_a_lefty_killer/#comments

His main point holds, though. It’s too small a sample to use his observed platoon splits.

      @ Rizzo the Rat:
Agreed. That’s why I liked about the comment. It’s just way too small a sample to suggest what Cameron did. I think people look at reliever statistics and jump to conclusion without realizing that they can pitch for 3 years before they even pitch a full season that a starter would. And we know how much random variation starters have.

It wouldn’t be fangraphs if someone wasn’t making bold claims with small sample sizes. I wonder that O’Day’s SIERA was in Yankee Stadium night games this year.

Also just noticed that ALCS stats are reset and separate from ALDS stats, which is just as pointless as not listing regular season stats.

Yes he is. My favorite comment may have been from Sandy Kazmir (number 16):

What do you mean, Incognito? I see one guy being a slave to honesty, the process, and the facts and another doing his typical smug pr1ck routine.

What? MGL was right so the first part of that I can accept, but the only person being a typical smug prick was MGL and anybody who sees it differently is obviously blind.
