Back and forth text convo with MomBTS, lifelong Cubs fan:

Mom: I was listening to the radio this morning and the Red Sox fans sounded so happy. I got a chill down my spine. I really really hope that is us someday.
GBTS: If it’s any consolation, half that Red Sox team was acquired by Theo.
Mom: That is consoling. Thank you. I will never give up. Ever.
GBTS: But to bring you back down to earth, that Cardinals roster will be dominant for like 7 more years.
Mom: Why do you do this to me

well, his bonus was with the Phils, and he was later with the A’s and Cubs, so I guess it’s moot in this case. good question though.

right. wasn’t really asking about cardenas but just curious overall. i guess the thought of someone getting a signing bonus and then voluntarily walking away voluntarily after a few years never really occurred to me so i have no clue how long a player is beholden to a team after cashing their signing bonus.
