JOT: Cubs Minor League Recap 6-24-13

In Commentary And Analysis, Minor Leagues by myles17 Comments

Iowa Cubs 6 @ Memphis Redbirds 1

I'm just tired of writing about the Iowa Cubs. They don't have anyone on their team (they promoted Jae-Hoon Ha but he didn't play. Junior Lake walked once and struck out once. Logan Watkins went 1-5 with an RBI. Brooks Raley went 7 shutout innings. No one cares about the rest.

Jackson Generals 1 @ Tennessee Smokies 5

Half of the hits the Smokies had were from Justin Bour, who hit a pair of home runs for 4 RBI. The other hits were a single from Matt Szczur and a big fly from Elliot Soto

Alberto Cabrera gave up a solo home run, 2 other hits, and 2 other walks in 8 innings. He allowed just the one run and struck out 13. He embarassed Jackson out there. Zach Rosscup cleaned it up in the ninth.

Lakeland Flying Tigers 5 @ Daytona Cubs 6 (12 innings)

Javier Baez walked again! He also struck out once. He did turn 3 double plays successfully, so there's that. John Andreoli continued to have a nice year with a double, single, and walk. Zeke DeVoss had a double as well with two walks. Tim Saunders had 2 walks and a double and a single. As a team the Cubs walked 7 times and struck out 8 in 12 innings. That's pretty solid.

It was Pierce Johnson's first start since being promoted. It went ok-ish, with 3 runs off 6 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings. He did strike out 6. Eduardo Figueroa allowed 2 runs in 3 innings, but then the Cubs had 2 and 1 scoreless performances by Frank Del Valle and Luis Liria.

Boise Hawks 3 @ Spokane Indians 5 (12 innings)

Jacob Hannemann had another strong outing. He had double doubles and a single single, for 3 RBI. Yasiel Balaguert had the loneo ther good performance, drawing 2 walks and getting a hit. I guess Carlos Penalver's 2-5, 2B performance was good too. Honestly, the Boise team isn't that impressive right now (but will be when draft picks start reporting).

DSL Cubs 7 @ DSL Rojos 6
V
SL Cubs 9 @ VSL Phillies 4
A
SL Cubs 3 @ ASL Angels 13

I’ll pay CNN $5,000 if they stop talking about this NSA/Edward Snowden story. Everybody already knew the NSA was doing this. This is like CNN providing nonstop breaking news that mayonnaise will go bad if left on the counter too long.

Blitzer: “We’ve just been told by a high-ranking source at Kraft that yes, they have known for many years that their product would in fact go bad if left at room temperature. Stay tuned to CNN as we bring you the latest on the Mayonnaise Scandal. We’ll have more up to the minute coverage on this breaking story after the commercial”

Blitzer: we’ve just learned from 3 senior sources inside a rival company that Kraft has intentionally made their mayonnaise so that it would go bad if left on the counter. These source indicate an intricate web of lies that CNN has learned first-hand and we’ll tell you about these right after the break.

Blitzer: this just in, CNN has learned that Kraft puts phosphoric acid in its products. This acid has been used to create bombs in the past. We can’t confirm Kraft’s involvement with bomb making, but questions to their Manager On-Call have been left unanswered so we can only speculate.

Blitzer: In other news around the world, a devastating tornado in somewhere in Africa killed half the population. We’ve got to take a break and we’ll be back with the latest news inside Kraft.

They DFA’d the guy least likely to be claimed or walk from the money. In a way its the smartest move. You don’t risk anyone and give Marm a chance to get into a rhythm again.

Blitzer: Look at them down there, eating the spoiled mayo. They are so poor, and so black…
