      Question for the stat fags:

What’s an average BABIP for a hitter? I ask because you look at Ruth’s for his career and he’s at .340 and Bonds’ is at .285. Was Ruth lucky for his career or was Bonds unlucky for his career?

I’d love it, but I’d rather BJax plays every day. I think the Cubs would give most of the innings to Colvin, at least to start with.

Usually between .290 – .310, depending on the run environment. Most hitters gravitate towards this range, but certain hitters have shown some ability to maintain high BABIPs, due to high LD% and lots of speed.

I think it has more to do with an exceptional LD rate and to a lesser extent the type of swing. HR guys should hit more fly balls, which would mean a lower babip, while as Mish points out speed guys are likely to hit more grounders and use their speed to get on base

Those who hit more in the air will have a lower babip and vice versa. LD rate is always around 20%, but there is a skill in hitting balls in the air or on the ground. Speed matters a little too.

What was the average babip when Ruth played? It may have been .340. I don’t know.

I think it totally depends on the situation. When I was in college we had a vaporizer that we used for casual, sitting around on the couch getting stoned and watching tv smoking. We had a glass bong for when we would come back late at night and want to get really baked.

True, but a) it’s fucking cold, and b) they have to honor the tickets sold from yesterday’s cancelled game

The sold-out game I went to in August ’09 got rained out and the make up game in September had a crowd like this, IIRC.

I think you’re right SK, at least for this season. I think I’m the only person that likes the blue jerseys. The same goes for the red-brimmed caps.

18 stolen bases off of Soto so far in this his 16th game. The Padres announcers mentioned something about them having no respect for Soto’s arm and would test it whenever they got a chance. They have and it’s been with great success.

If I sat through 11 innings of 2-1 baseball in freezing temperatures, I sure as hell wouldn’t want more (dying laughing). There’s probably a selection bias at play here.

I like them both as well. I associate the blue jerseys with Z, so I’ve never had an issue with them. Plus, a little variety is nice.

If I had it my way, though, I’d make the alternates navy blue with the 1914 bear and bat logo, with matching hats. I think that’d look pretty sharp.
