I have Fukudome’s CF projection for some reason. He’s -.5 in RF so he’s now tied with Colvin for the best fielder in today’s lineup.

uzr is goofy. Fukudome is not that poor of a fielder and Pena is actually pretty good over at first.

Yeah, I don’t really care about defensive projections or even the defensive metrics for that matter. I just included it just because. Over several years I think they’re pretty good, but you need such a large sample for them to be any good.
I don’t really agree that Pena is good over at 1st base though. I thought Derrek Lee was a pretty good fielder earlier in his Cubs career, but by 2007 and 2008 he was pretty much stationary over there. Pena hasn’t even made the plays that Lee would have made. The defensive metrics seem to agree with that too. Doesn’t matter which one you look at. He’s been below average in his career.
-49 Total Zone. His best season ever was 1 TZ.
-24.3 Total Zone Location (since 2005). Best season was 0.1.
-16.7 UZR. Best season at 5.8.
The fans had him as above average in 2009 and 2010, but that’s a lot of agreement between the metrics. The best is DRS at -5.

He wants him to swing at pitches that are strikes, which is what he should do. A walk is a good thing, but if the pitcher isn’t going to give you one you have to swing the bat. I don’t want Castro or any player going to the plate looking for a walk. I want them to take it if it’s there. If Castro can develop that skill he just might become a superstar (still needs more power though).

I think that’s probably the idea, but the quote is a bit out of context. If the ball is close enough on a two-strike count you’d want to protect the plate anyway.

Cashner would probably have been about .3 so about .7 wins. Then add in Wells/Coleman and you get about the same thing. If Wells and Cashner were healthy this team would probably be .500 right now. That’s not possible considering they’ve played 23 games, but you know what I mean.

They’d have to be excited about him to bump him to AA so quickly in the season. He’s had good numbers before this, but not the strikeouts. Walks have always been good too, which is nice for a pitching staff that walks so many guys.

I looked through the schedules briefly and saw 6 similar off dates that these two teams have the rest of the season. The first is May 23rd and the Rockies play a doubleader at home on the 24th so that one is out. Another one in early June is after the Rockies play the Dodgers and a day before they play the Giants so that’s likely out. One of the dates was in September and I doubt they schedule a make-up game from this early in the season that late in the season. June 23rd or August 18th makes the most sense if they decide to cancel the game today.
