Too lazy to do a real game thread. I predict the Cubs lose 4-3.

Cubs lose on a TOOTBLAN.
15-14, Cubs win.
15-14, Cubs win.
Your optimism is always an inspiration.
15-14, Cubs win.
That would be much more exciting than the typical Cubs game.
That’s a strikeout?
(dying laughing), what a horribly blown call.
That was a bomb
There’s that Pena.
PEEN-YA-YA TIME!
Now they gotta hope for five full (dying laughing)
PENA!
Thank goodness Pena didn’t walk.

I still can’t believe that Byrd is/was nursing a double digit hitting streak.

Did you punch the luck dragon?
Did you punch the luck dragon?
I rolled a 2, so I couldn’t find him
Phillips’ intro music is Cee Lo’s “Fuck You” (though probably Forget You, but come on, who the hell are we kidding?)
Phillips’ intro music is Cee Lo’s “Fuck You” (though probably Forget You, but come on, who the hell are we kidding?)
That’d be awesome on the organ.
11 pitch inning for Wells to begin his rehab start.
That’d be awesome on the organ.
That’s what he said.
It’s kind of sad. When Brad Snyder’s name appears on my TV, I instinctively shield my son’s eyes to keep him from reading an F-bomb. (dying laughing)
MB’s 4-3 prediction is still in play.
MB’s 4-3 prediction is still in play.
I’m never wrong.

The Reds broadcast just showed that Phillips play against the Astros. Unbelievable.
Oooh, high strike.
A good call though, but usually I didn’t think they called those.
brad fucking snyder is going to beat Hendry with a tire iron for not calling him up
Nice bunt.
I’m never wrong.
Just don’t complain about how all the other team does is hit singles (dying laughing)
HR/FB luck dragon smiles on Garza.
well i just read the cashner news. what a bummer
brad fucking snyder is going to beat Hendry with a tire iron for not calling him up
it would be a funnier mental image if he just beat him with a tire, which is how I first read it (dying laughing)
well i just read the cashner news. what a bummer
At least it’s the same injury, and not something like a torn labrum
isnt a strain a tear though?
isnt a strain a tear though?
Maybe I’m not getting the full news. I just saw that he reaggravated the same injury. He’s rehabbing, and IIRC torn labrum = surgery.
Cubs should start swinging at everything and hope the game gets in
well the original injury was a strain behind the rotator cuff. so thats a small tear. now its happened again.
Though this rain doesn’t look like it should be too bad, it will probably just be light rain on and off for the rest of the game
A strain is a minor tear. If he aggravated it it probably means the tear didn’t heal and might have gotten a bit worse. But most of the muscle/ligament is probably still hanging on strong so that’s why they’re not exploring surgery. I doubt any team elects to have surgery unless they absolutely have to.
Gawd Byrd.
its been a tough year for our farm so far
Vitters has flamed out, Carpenter & Jackson have taken a step backwards, Simpson fucking sucks. Whitenack has been the only pleasant story to follow
its been a tough year for our farm so far

McNutt has that evil blister too
well the original injury was a strain behind the rotator cuff. so thats a small tear. now its happened again.
Did we ever hear if it was a mild/grade 1 strain or worse? I’ve looked for that information, but haven’t really found something I thought was an actual diagnosis. But yes, a strain is a tear and vice versa.

Gawd Byrd.
Yeah, it’s a last resort. I think he ends up having surgery, but probably not before trying to rehab again.
Did we ever hear if it was a mild/grade 1 strain or worse? I’ve looked for that information, but haven’t really found something I thought was an actual diagnosis. But yes, a strain is a tear and vice versa.
There are tears and there are Motherfucking Tears though. I’m guessing it’s still a minor one.
and i know mb21 isnt fond of him but im willing to take a wait and see with Ha.
There are 3 types of tears. A grade 1 is just a minor tear, grade 2 is a partial tear and grade 3 is a complete rupture in the muscle tissue (think Nomar).
and i know mb21 isnt fond of him but im willing to take a wait and see with Ha.
It’s not that I’m not fond of him, DJ. I hope he improves. I think jtsunami’s ranking (6th) is about right. He’s improved plate discipline away from being a top prospect. It’s easier said than done. I’d much rather have someone like Ha who can actually hit as opposed to Vitters. I’m just not holding my breath.
yeah i understand. it may just be me but i think our farm is down a decent amount from when the season started.
vitters is D-O-N-E. kid cant hit, cant walk and can’t stick at 3B
yeah i understand. it may just be me but i think our farm is down a decent amount from when the season started.
Considering it would have been ranked about 8th before the Garza trade and 19th after, it’s way down from where it was just 6 to 8 months ago. They have an awful farm system. I’m not yet sold on Whitenack. Or McNutt to be honest. McNutt reminds me of Jay Jackson. Not a high draft pick who skyrocketed through the organization. I’m always hesitant to think too highly of those guys.
From Peoria Chiefs:
Its 3-1 QC as we go bottom 4. Final line on Wells: 3.2ip, 6h, 3r, 1er, 0bb, 1k 48 pitches, 34 strikes.
Agreed on Vitters though as you know, I’ve thought that for over a year now. I wouldn’t have had him in my top 10 entering 2010.
I think McNutt is the real deal. the reports on his stuff and makeup both seem pretty good and results are solid as well.
Ha just worked a 3-1 count then tripled.
Ha just worked a 3-1 count then tripled.
And then he pointed to the pitcher and said “Ha!”
every time we play the Reds i just keep hoping Brett Jackson turns out like Drew Stubbs
(dying laughing)
FAIL.
Austin Kirk is having a great year though
its been a tough year for our farm so far
Vitters has flamed out, Carpenter & Jackson have taken a step backwards, Simpson fucking sucks. Whitenack has been the only pleasant story to follow
Speaking of Whitenack; 2K/1BB 8:1 GO/FO so far thru 4IP. He generates big GO numbers in every start it seems.
Cub’d
jesus christ
Was that ball out of play? Pat and Keith think the Cubs got hosed.
(dying laughing)

don’t you have to try to be this bad?
3 unearned runs on one play. It’s a way of [L]ife.

This is the first Cubs game I’ve watched in a week, and I’m ready to watch something else.
This is the first Cubs game I’ve watched in a week, and I’m ready to watch something else.
Turn on the Cubs game, Let’s See What Happens.
That team meeting really whipped the Cubs into shape.
Maybe b really does need to punch the luck dragon.
Thought Castro would end up on third there
a 3-0 wag.
sigh
Unproductive out. This team’s lack of grindiness is coming back to haunt them…
this fucking team is a joke.
This is the first Cubs game I’ve watched in a week, and I’m ready to watch something else.
iTunes has several games from the 2008 season that are much more worth watching than anything from 2011. Ye gods this team is bad.
a 3-0 wag.
sigh
That was close but I think it was ball four.
This is Volquez’s best start all season
Red’s announcers: “Rookie mistake by Darwin Barney…”
Red’s announcers: “Reds scored three runs on a ball that never left the infield”
Castro basically punched Fred Lewis in the face
(dying laughing)
Got a handle on my PC virus but I still cant see comments on it yet. I’m reinstalling firefox for lack of a better idea
Red’s announcers: “Reds scored three runs on a ball that never left the infield”
Technically it did leave the infield when the throw hit the camera out of the field of play thus allowing two of the runs to score.
Weird to see only two Ks for Garza today
(dying laughing)
WTF is going on?
(dying laughing)
Jesus Christ! WTF is this bullshit! (dying laughing) (dying laughing) (dying laughing)
Was that a Welington fail?
what the hell was that? He walked halfway to the dugout before going to 1b
This game is retarded.
That should be ejection tirade worthy for Quade
what the hell was that? He walked halfway to the dugout before going to 1b
I thought if he leaves the box without attempting to go to 1B he is automatically out.
Oh well, at least it means an extra K for Garza. It’s probably his last inning anyway.
I thought if he leaves the box without attempting to go to 1B he is automatically out.
I thought it was changed as a response to the Pierzynski play against the Angels in the 05 playoffs.
Embarrassing that Castillo didn’t just tag Cairo, but he did forfeit his right to the base. Even more embarrassing that Quade didn’t even protest.
Even Brenly thinks it’s BS
Brenly says the rule book states batter is out if he leaves dirt circle around home if he’s not advancing to first.
I thought it was changed as a response to the Pierzynski play against the Angels in the 05 playoffs.
I don’t think AJ left the batter’s box. He has to make an initial attempt to get to 1B. If he doesn’t it’s automatically out. I could be wrong though.
Embarrassing that Castillo didn’t just tag Cairo, but he did forfeit his right to the base. Even more embarrassing that Quade didn’t even protest.
Quade argued earlier and was wrong so by his unwritten rules he can’t argue another play in the game. I thought that was common knowledge. (dying laughing)
Campana is in? Interesting.
Oooh, how do the Cubs fuck this one up?
Who’s got the bunt signal?!
I feel bad for guys who make their MLB debut as a pinch runner or defensive replacement (dying laughing)
Quade argued earlier and was wrong so by his unwritten rules he can’t argue another play in the game. I thought that was common knowledge. (dying laughing)
I wish we could write these rules down, but I’m sure there’s an unwritten rule against that. And holy crap, this is ridiculous. This game. No one wants it.
Why put in a pinch runner just to bunt him over? Why not try to let him steal a bag? Ugh
(dying laughing), according to Yahoo some guy named “M. Johnson” is pinch hitting
Reed fail.
(dying laughing), according to Yahoo some guy named “M. Johnson” is pinch hitting
The “M” is for “Magic” (dying laughing)
I’m pretty sure Quade didn’t go out to argue because he didn’t know what the fuck happened.
Come on, Kosuke!
ugh, reedz
Bases loaded for Darwin Fucking Barney.
Time for some more runner on 3b with less than 2 outs FAIL
Bases loaded for Darwin Fucking Barney.
Way to out Darwin and Barney.
Bases-loaded walk would be nice.
Fantastic AB by Barney
Bases-loaded walk would be nice.
Ricestradamus.
Well, this game’s been something.
Well, this game’s been something.
So I can comment but not see comments from my PC. This is weird.
Well, this game’s been something.
The way this game has been going, Castro is going to fly out to RF and Fukudome will be doubled off of 2b
Bah.
Marshall just hung clown shoes on Votto
Marshall just hung clown shoes on Votto
That was hilarious. He ducked out of there like a little leaguer.
That curve Marshall threw to Votto was one of the best pitches I’ve ever seen him throw.
(dying laughing)

don’t you have to try to be this bad?
I think people underestimated how bad this defense was.
Got a handle on my PC virus but I still cant see comments on it yet. I’m reinstalling firefox for lack of a better idea
What virus? I tried this site on Windows 7 Firefox 3.5.x and the comments loaded for me.
Way to go, kid. Brenly just messed himself.
Nice to see that first hit! Looks like he can fly.
Do you guys have a golden sombrero gif?
Way to go, kid. Brenly just messed himself.
Glad I’m not watching the Cubs broadcast
Wait, they can’t find a way to get Colvin at bats, but Tony Campana can play in his first available game?
Wait, they can’t find a way to get Colvin at bats, but Tony Campana can play in his first available game?
Only after Reedz pinch hit
Only after Reedz pinch hit
Tony Campana pinch ran for Soriano before Reed’s pinch-fail.
Did Soriano get hurt?
I was coming in here to post about the farm…
I am out on Vitters and Jay Jackson.
I am up on Whitenack, Ha, and Lake (yes i know the other 2 have a BB issue but that might be fixable granted not with this team but somewhere)
Still big on McNutt
Did Soriano get hurt?
It was the top of the seventh so it was like the requisite speedy/better defender substitution.
Did Soriano get hurt?
He did…3 years ago
Did Soriano get hurt?
Nevermind. This is clearly his punishment for getting thrown out at the plate last night.
He did…3 years ago

Nevermind. This is clearly his punishment for getting thrown out at the plate last night.
(dying laughing)
Because the 3B coach had nothing to do with it.
On a related note, Carl Crawford wOBA: .236 (smugly laughing)
I wonder if Campana would’ve cut that ball off to keep Rolen to a single. Maybe not, hit pretty hard.
Marmol better be warming up now.
(dying laughing)
(dying laughing)
(dying laughing)
(dying laughing)
(dying laughing)
So, 4 Reds runs have scored on bad throws by the pitchers tonight. It’s a way of [L]ife.
I’m really starting to dig the Reds announcers.
Brantley: Put the ball on the ground and see if the Cubs infield can field it.
(dying laughing)
Every team should bunt against the Cubs infield. It’s a fucking joke.
Brantley said that as if that’s the game plan for teams against the Cubs this year too.
Brantley said that as if that’s the game plan for teams against the Cubs this year too.
I’d tell my team to do this. Reds announcers know their shit.
I’d tell my team to do this. Reds announcers know their shit.
Brantley is an idiot.
Somewhere, the baby Jesus cries.
Brantley is an idiot.
I don’t know, Melissa. He’s said about 757 things the last two days that have been said on this blog about the Cubs. Only 3 of them have been said by Len and Bob. Brantley may be an idiot, but we’re idiots too because I swear the guy has been reading this blog.
Brantley is an idiot.
Never heard him so you’d know better than I.
Jeez. I feel bad that this is happening to Kerry Wood, but I’m not surprised.
Missed cutoff man. (dying laughing)
I take back everything I have said about Quade not being deserving of this job. The Cubs are a AA team. Quade is more than qualified to be coaching a AA team.
Kerry’s just trying to make Mateo feel better. What a Leader.
I don’t know, Melissa. He’s said about 757 things the last two days that have been said on this blog about the Cubs. Only 3 of them have been said by Len and Bob. Brantley may be an idiot, but we’re idiots too because I swear the guy has been reading this blog.
Any idiot can see this team is bad. Do you really expect the announcers paid by the Cubs to criticize them like the opposition would? Brantley is a blowhard and a legend in his own mind, I don’t enjoy listening to him. I’m pretty sure everyone here would like him about as much as they do Brenly if he were the announcer for the Cubs.
I guess at this point you save Marmol for Florida, right?
Now tHom and Brantley are talking about how they watched a lot of Reds games just like the Cubs are playing tonight and that the Reds never had the payroll this team does.
I like these guys. i went into this series with a strong dislike for tHom, but i actually like the guy now.
Maybe, but what I’m saying is that of all the broadcasts I’ve listened to this season, no team has pegged this Cubs team like Brantley and tHom have. Not even close. Every other announcer has thought this team could contend. Every one of them. These guys think the Cubs are a joke. They’re right and much smarter than any other announcer I’ve heard call a Cubs game this season.

FWIW. Brenly’s been quite blunt about the shittiness of the Cubs today
Good hustle by Kosuke.
Jeff Brantley went to Mississippi State, plenty of reason to like the guy and never question his intelligence. Now if he went to Ole Miss, then I would see how he could be an idiot.
FWIW. Brenly’s been quite blunt about the shittiness of the Cubs today
Brenly has been better at that this year. He’s also picked on other players for a change as well. I really haven’t had much to complain about with regards to Brenly this year.
Brenneman and Brantley are notorious for bashing the Cubs even when they aren’t bad, this isn’t a revelation. (dying laughing)
Brenneman and Brantley are notorious for bashing the Cubs even when they aren’t bad, this isn’t a revelation. (dying laughing)
Not the Cubs team, Melissa. I listened to them call Cubs games in 2007 and 2008 and they were always picking on the Cubs for some obscure bullshit reason.
Brennaman earned my respect last night when he went on and on about the great career Zambrano has had. He even talked about wins argument and flat out said it ain’t his fault the team didn’t score. I’ve never heard an announcer say that about a pitcher. Any pitcher. These guys may be blowhards. I don’t doubt that and wouldn’t argue with it, but they’re a hell of a lot more intelligent than the two calling the Cubs games.
All seven runs unearned (dying laughing)
Oh wait, 5 unearned, 2 on Wood were earned.
Innovative Sucking. It’s what they do.
Innovative Sucking. It’s what they do.
(dying laughing) they’ve been doing it for a LONG time.
but they’re a hell of a lot more intelligent than the two calling the Cubs games.
Jesus, such high standards we have for others.
Say what you want about the Cubs infield, but that was pretty much all on two plays by the pitchers. I don’t know that this game is really evidence of the defense being crappy. I mean, it’s two pitchers throwing two balls away that results in five runs . . . (dying laughing)
Peasants! Arst thou conversing?
7 unearned runs, Quade’s little tirade really lit a fire under this team.
(dying laughing)
(dying laughing)

The box scores must be contradictory. Says two of the runs given up by Wood were earned.
i was going by what Len said, so the box score is probably correct.
They were runs regardless. Epic fail.
Just prove his point, he’s going to shake up the batting order. WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW?
God hates the Cubs, that’s just science.
If the Cubs were a car, they’d be a rusty Yugo.
They were runs regardless. Epic fail.
They might have to resolve that. They could argue that the runs would have scored afterward anyway, but they would have to rule that a good throw from Wood wouldn’t have retired the runner at third, in which case that run at the very least wouldn’t have scored. But I suppose that’s a judgment call by the scorer. Or something.

I also don’t think Hanigan should be earned when he was only on 3rd because of the bad throw and scored on a sac fly.
ESPN’s box score is showing Wood has two earned runs, but MLB.com’s box score shows all runs unearned. I think I’m more inclined to believe MLB.com though.
What a fail.
This is kind of like trying to decide which bullet killed Kennedy.
This

Yeah, I’m not a huge fan of Brennaman or Brantley, but I’m also the only one here who likes Len, so whatever.
I don’t know that I’ve ever had an issue with Brantley before, but I never liked Brennaman before this series. After these last two games I at least have some respect for him. I enjoyed Brantley a lot.
Yeah, I’m not a huge fan of Brennaman or Brantley, but I’m also the only one here who likes Len, so whatever.
The problems I have with Len are that he never tells us where the fielders are position or who is up in the bullpen. Yah I just like Len because he bring in saber concepts to the broadcast, and doesn’t deal in the cliches (or at least heavily qualifies them). I’m strange though, I can’t listen to most broadcasters because they drive me up a wall with their canned lines, clear homerism and espousal of things that have proven to be untrue. But I never really thought about the bullpen or positioning stuff before.

Interesting story, not sure exactly what to think. Between my lifestyle and following abuses in the criminal justice system closely, I probably loathe officers more than most. But I don’t really see why he was kicked out, but I’m glad that it wasn’t more of an incident than it was.

Jeez, it was just a link. You don’t have to try to have an opinion about it, faget.
wut?
wut?
Yellon thinks that the Cubs players are reptilian I guess.
http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=13935
If the Cubs actually take someone in the top 30, I’m betting it’s Lindor. He’s the perfect player for Wilken. I’m still doubtful that they’ll take anyone in the top 30. Probably not even in the top 100.
Len may bring up some advanced stats, but he doesn’t use them. He uses the same stupid small sample stats that every other announcer uses.

I didn’t try, slapnuts.

True, but I think he does enough with not relying on RBIs and Wins to evaluate and discuss players. My only real frame of reference is previous Cubs booths, the White Sox booth (I HATE THEM), and the national media, which has mostly consisted of Joe Morgan, Tim McCarver, Joe Morgan, Joe Buck, Joe Morgan, Aaron Boone, Mark Grace, Dick Stockton, Rick Sutcliffe, etc. Len’s the first I can actually listen to without punching myself.
Tho I really do like Drew Staats for the Rays, tho.
.
Len reminds me of all the guys you mentioned. To be honest, I haven’t heard him evaluate a single player without using traditional stats. Batting average is the first thing he always brings up.
Maybe discussions in private are different, but on the air they’re similar to every other PBP announcer in the game in my opinion.
Whatever, it’s not a huge deal. I’m somewhat shocked you’d lump Len in with that group, though.
Anyways, are there any plug-ins or programs that need to run for me to see comments? I can’t see it on IE or Firefox on my PC, and I reinstalled FF and I also created a new user with a clean registry and still nothing.
Can you send me a screen cap of the page when you load it? Does the component not show up at all? When did this start happening? Can you see the comments on this page: http://demo.joomlatune.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=45:joomla-community-portal-online&catid=1:latest-news&Itemid=50#comments ?

On the same computer you’re having problems
If this is happening to you then I’m sure it’s happening to others. Maybe we need a new comment component.
I like the part during the 8th inning where the WPA needle looked like it took Viagra.

I’m thinking Starling or the Bradleys.
I’m thinking Starling or the Bradleys.
I’ll bet you $50 they don’t take Starling. For that matter, make it $50 they don’t take anyone in the top 30.

I thought you guys only made bets in BBQ sauce.

Well I don’t have access to it atm, but it would just look like a normal thread as if there were no comments. If I post a comment, it accepts it (I’d double check on my ipad) but I still don’t see the comments stream. I’m using Firefox on my work PC and have no problems, and no probs on the iPad. It’s really weird.
I thought you guys only made bets in BBQ sauce.
I’m assuming Ryno will buy an adequate amount of Cookie’s.

I’ll check as soon as I can and get back to you.

Like I need any of that. I have two cases.
Starling is the type of OF Wilken loves. So is Springer. I could see either of them being the pick. Lindor is too raw.
I don’t think it matters what or who Wilken loves. For one thing, he’s pretty bad at his job. 2) the Cubs aren’t going to allow them to spend the kind of money it would take to draft any of those guys anyway.

I’m inclined to believe the latter statement, but how did Wilken get such a good rep if he sucks?
I moved jtsunami’s post to the front page (
