It’s been a while since we had one of these (and I can’t even write more than that one sentence and will make mb21 do the rest).
Although Carlos Zambrano is not with the team, it’s almost certainly his final game employed by the Chicago Cubs. In his honor and the complete crap that this current team is, I suggest you watch this game instead.
Or maybe you remember what was one of the most entertaining moments in Cubs history.

I love the tag. And Carlos Zambrano. May he finish his career well wherever he goes.
Phils and Yanks are leading, I see.
1. Starlin Castro (R) SS
2. Blake DeWitt (L) 2B
3. Aramis Ramirez (R) 3B
4. Jeff Baker (R) 1B
5. Reed Johnson (R) LF
6. Lou Montanez (R) RF
7. Tony Campana (L) CF
8. Koyie Hill (S) C
9. Ryan Dempster (R) P
quade killed my fantasy season last night by playing the “A” team and getting garza a win
Figures I’d pick the boring game to watch. Oh well.
I missed this article, but holy shit has Dempster’s slider been UNLUCKY this year: http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2011/9/1/2396329/the-un-luckiest-pitches-in-the-majors-this-year
Sox lead. Rays in trouble.
might as well have called this “The Wildcard Games Thread.”
Good thing I’m not a Rays fan…
Teixiera hates the Rays.
Why the hell are the Yankees playing anyone but scrubs? What do they think they’re doing!!
Why the hell are the Yankees playing anyone but scrubs? What do they think they’re doing!!
Maybe they want the Rays to fail in the first round as making the playoffs and then failing is an even worse punishment.
Hamels is pitching now? Odd.
Braves threatening to take the lead.
might as well have called this “The Wildcard Games Thread.”
I like playoff baseball, but I’m not as excited to watch a Wild Card race as most of you are. I still have trouble with the idea of celebrating a wild card. You finished in 2nd place and in the case of these teams they’re way behind the top team in their division.
That’s just me though.
Switched to Braves game in time to see the Uggla HR. Back to the Sox.
Well it’s basically just root for the Orioles right now…
Well it’s basically just root for the Orioles right now…
Mish has powers.
ANDINO!!!
Well it’s basically just root for the Orioles right now…
So that worked.
Only 556 seats per game were sold at Wrigley this year compared to last. I thought early in the season it would be much more than that.
I like playoff baseball, but I’m not as excited to watch a Wild Card race as most of you are. I still have trouble with the idea of celebrating a wild card. You finished in 2nd place and in the case of these teams they’re way behind the top team in their division.

false
Albert Pujols —> 99 RBI
Damn Astros. Stop sucking.
It’s something to do.
I know. I’m in the minority obviously. I don’t think I’ve made it through any West Coast game this year but I plan to tonight. Last Cubs game of the year so what the fuck?
I’d be more interested in this Cubs game if Q put together a better lineup.
The bird is the word:
I’d be more interested in this Cubs game if Q put together a better lineup.
It’s all relative with this team (dying laughing)
The lineup they used yesterday was pretty decent. Today’s just mystifies me.
A fucking balk ties it in BAL. In fucking credible.
I don’t know, ACT. That lineup looks the same as any other Cubs lineup this year minus Pena. (dying laughing)
They also have Hill, Campana, and Montanez. Also, while I’m fine with Blake starting over Barney, why wait to do it until a southpaw is on the mound?
Using Campana of Byrd and Hill over Soto against an LHP is what I really don’t get.
Using Campana of Byrd and Hill over Soto against an LHP is what I really don’t get.
Wait, it matters?
I’m explaining why I’m not interested in the game. As far as that is concerned, yes, it matters who’s playing.
I’m watching to see how many hits Castro gets. Got the Cards-Astros game on to see if Pujols can get #100.
Red Sox —> lead
Adrian can haz BABIP.
Bullpen day for the Phillies.
Not exactly; they’re playing a bunch of starters.
Not exactly; they’re playing a bunch of starters.
Yes, as in they’re giving everyone a bullpen session
Meanwhile it seems Brett Myers is content in throwing batting practice.
Tony Campana doesn’t want to make bunting for hits easier.
Jack Wilson just had a Buckner moment.
Braves SS botched a DP ball with 1 out, allowing a run to score.
(dying laughing) @ Cubs…ah, entertainment.
Amazing DP by the Sox.
If the Cubs have to lose tonight, I hope the Royals win.
Terry Francona is Quade-ing Lester tonight.
I know. I’m in the minority obviously. I don’t think I’ve made it through any West Coast game this year but I plan to tonight. Last Cubs game of the year so what the fuck?
I haven’t given a shit about any of these teams all year, I just get caught up in the playoff atmosphere. Better twice removed excitement then no excitement at all.
I know. I’m in the minority obviously. I don’t think I’ve made it through any West Coast game this year but I plan to tonight. Last Cubs game of the year so what the fuck?
At least it’s a 8:30 ET start. If it was one of those 10pm games I wouldn’t make it through the second inning (dying laughing). Nice of the Padres to schedule it earlier.
A fucking balk ties it in BAL. In fucking credible.
Still more likely than that triple play in yesterday’s game (dying laughing).
They also have Hill, Campana, and Montanez. Also, while I’m fine with Blake starting over Barney, why wait to do it until a southpaw is on the mound?
Cuey told Witty in Spring Training that he was going to start today. That’s a promise you can’t break.
At least we’ll probably get one game 163
Venters = Marmol
Campana flashing that power (dying laughing)
(dying laughing) Cubs
Boston —————> rain delay
(dying laughing) Cubs
Multiple baserunning mistakes but by definition only one may TOOTBLAN, right?
Hey, Dempster, maybe you should try not walking people for a change.
Multiple baserunning mistakes but by definition only one may TOOTBLAN, right?
Well, being thrown out is part of the definition. Though I would be impressed if the Cubs managed to pull off the rare double TOOTBLAN on the same play. They only have five more innings to go if they want to do it this year.
(dying laughing), I tune in to the Cubs game just in time for
-a Campana RBI IF single
-a Campana-induced TOOTBLAN to end the inning
-Dempster walking everyone in sight
-a Castro fielding error
We just need the Cubs to go down on 4 pitches in the next inning for this to be a microcosm of the entire season
200 IP for Dempster. 200.2 to be exact. I hope he’s done (dying laughing)
You must have missed Campana attempting to bunt his way on base with two outs (dying laughing)

Kimbrel is Marmoling this save op.
Another walk by Kimbrel.
Kimbrel with the BS.
Holy shit Braves.
Another walk by Kimbrel.
Déjà vu

Cuey needs to make sure he leaves Dempster in an inning too long
Holy shit, Carpenter is nails tonight. 10 K, 2 hits
Cuey needs to make sure he leaves Dempster in an inning too long
He’ll pull him just after leaving him in the game to lay down a bunt with one out.
He’ll pull him just after leaving him in the game to lay down a bunt with one out.
(dying laughing), yes, how could I forget. Len and Bob would make sure to stress that Demp is a good bunter before returning to their long discussion of Petco’s ballpark food.
Come on Royals, score already!
Unless Pujols can homer in his next AB (assuming nobody gets on base) it will be the first time in his career he won’t hit .300/30HR/100 RBI.
He got the 30+ HR of course.
So, Jeff Baker’s still on the team, huh?
Unless Pujols can homer in his next AB (assuming nobody gets on base) it will be the first time in his career he won’t hit .300/30HR/100 RBI.

Pujols ———-> done. Cubs should offer 2/6 for him this offseason
Rays may score…
Sam Fuld up with the bases loaded to add to the legend.

They wouldn’t call the Boston game, would they? They’d suspend it or something, surely.
I’m sure Tampa Bay would protest if it were called.
Speaking of Tampa, they may help their own cause anyway.
Yankees could really use Rivera right now.
Dempster’s thrown 100+ pitches in a game he’s trailing in. WTF Quade.
Longoria!!!!
Holy shit Rays!
Holy hell, Rays.
(dying laughing)
(dying laughing)
Fucking Cubs…poor Dempster.
Cuey needs to make sure he leaves Dempster in an inning too long
Aaaand there it is
How do you give up 9 runs to the Padres in Petco?
Rays need a run!
How do you give up 9 runs to the Padres in Petco?
Shitty variance.
KC lost, so I don’t think the Cubs can do any better than the #6 pick now.
Chipper almost won the game there.
Cards/Stros started an hour later than the other WC games; finished first.
How do you give up 9 runs to the Padres in Petco?
He must not be having fun out there. He looks tired.
I blame Aramis Ramirez.
No sign of Mo.
No sign of Mo.
They gave Mo and Soriano the night off
Don’t they have any respect for the game?
Ted Lilly is pitching well. Also had an RBI single and got caught stealing (wtf?)
Nice try, Rays. Hope the Red Sox lose.
Cashner looked great.
TB! Crazy!
Wow. Rays tied.
Shut ME RIGHT UP!!!!
Oh. They should have brought in Mo.
Hooooooolllllleeeey Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit
So is Joe Maddon trying out to be the next Philip Seymour Hoffman or something? When did he add 50 lbs and grow a mullet?
Cassie!
Holy shit tampa bay rays
how long has Boston-Baltimore been delayed?
Scott Proctor eh. Girardi really wants to lose.
He wants the game to end so he can rest his players.
Must suck for the Red Sox to be watching this while waiting out the rain delay (dying laughing)
Free baseball!
Sox-O’s just has to go into extras now, after it resumes.
how long has Boston-Baltimore been delayed?
Almost an hour I want to say.
So are the Yanks throwing the game? I mean, in that they just don’t care? Or are these guys pros and therefore above all that?
Almost an hour I want to say.
So are the Yanks throwing the game? I mean, in that they just don’t care? Or are these guys pros and therefore above all that?
I think it’s probly as much that Girardi just doesn’t want to have anyone of consequence get hurt, which obviously helps the Rays because they’re basically playing Scranton-Wilkes Barre at this point.
(dying laughing), Boston restarts with two straight HBP
(dying laughing), apparently that Dan Johnson HR hit a fan in the nuts.
(dying laughing), apparently that Dan Johnson HR hit a fan in the nuts.
What a cock-knocker.
Read that Youk was done for the year.
Cubs almost done.
Godspeed, little doodle
Braves absolutely refuse to score. Just lose and end the pain atlanta
All this free baseball is exciting.
Read that Youk was done for the year.
That’s a kick in the nuts for Boston. No wonder they’ve been sucking it up.
Cubs —> #6 pick if my calculations are correct.
(dying laughing), apparently that Dan Johnson HR hit a fan in the nuts.
I love the highlight with the edit going from the fan bent over ready to puke to Johnson pumping his fist. (dying laughing)

Phillies lead!
(dying laughing) Braves
Phillies lead!
A 7th worst meltdown is admirable, but I was really hoping for that 3rd.
BTW is it all Heyward’s fault? Just curious.
WTF? How did Ellsbury not make an out?
I saw the play. He was safe.
Proctor is still pitching. Girardi obviously wants to lose. Come on Rays!
Cards ————> WC
Cardinals——->WC
Braves————-> epic collapse
Cards ————> WC
HEYWARD!!
Proctor is still pitching. Girardi obviously wants to lose. Come on Rays!
He’s playing the “I quit caring an hour ago” card.
(dying laughing) @ Braves
Good gawd Rays…
The Red Sox can still choke!
Come the fuck on, Orioles.
Pap is filthy.
Pap is filthy.
If Marmol throws nasty slider —> White Castle, then would similar pitches from Papelbon be known as “Pap smears”?
/reaching’d
Ruh roh!
If I were a Rays fine, I’d hang myself.

Hooray for TOOTBLANs!
Unfortunately, an actual baseball player is currently batting for the Yankees.
Shut me right up.
TIE GAME
Unfortunately, an actual baseball player is currently batting for the Yankees.
Still a 65% chance of making an out, which he did.
Go Orioles!
Holy shit Baltimore!!
(dying laughing)
(dying laughing)
(dying laughing)
Holy Shit Murdermore! #3 Collapse still in play!
Okay, this is by far the most exciting last day of the season I’ve ever witnessed.
Did the Rays discover a glitch in baseball where you get 99 extra lives?
I am rooting for that big #3!
Tonight has ended baseball history.
Did the Rays discover a glitch in baseball where you get 99 extra lives?
Up up down down left right left right B A start
Sox lose.
Sox lose.
FAIL
Pap’s smears weren’t enough tonight.
I think we can successfully blame Crawford for this entire collapse.

(dying laughing)
(dying laughing)
I guess we can’t hire Friedman now (dying laughing)
Holy shit. Just another holy shit.
So this is what watching baseball can be like. I thought it was just a bunch of funsucking.
The Red Sox lose in classic (for this year) Red Sox form, and the Rays scrap-ass a win together against Yankees AAAA. The Sox are going to take a hit out on Girardi.
Losing Youk was a huge blow. That doesn’t excuse the whole month, but that was bad.
I guess we didn’t really need a game #163 (dying laughing)
That shit was like the 1st round of March Madness. Incredible. Really excited about the playoffs now.
How selfish are the Cardinals, winning by 8 runs.
So…hire Theo?
Holy. Shit.
How selfish are the Cardinals, winning by 8 runs.
Tony’s ego running rampant again, Fucktard.
I am still stunned. I physically can’t get off the couch.
I hope Rays win WS. maybe then Friedman will be more likely to leave TB???? I don’t know. I bet Tito gets fired tho.
I am still stunned. I physically can’t get off the couch.
Hope you cleaned up after yourself.
Mish, I wasn’t kidding when I said I would go to this game with you if you paid for it all. (dying laughing)
Mish, I wasn’t kidding when I said I would go to this game with you if you paid for it all. (dying laughing)
I’m too dumbfounded to respond coherently to anything.

What a cheap-ass home run.
http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=19774117
This is why I hate steal attempts against southpaws.
Pujols finishes with 99 RBI and a .299 AVG. I doubt he’s complaining, though.
Theo Epstein: we’re talking about motherfucking fagets.
Seriously, look at his picture. He’s a frat-boy faget. I want to kick him in the groin, Repeatedly.
Crawford contract = fail.
Gonzalez contract = fail.
Pitching = fail.
Bed shitting = winning.
