*gasp* Byrd took a pitch.
Let’s all congratulate Byrd on his first BB.
Let’s all congratulate Byrd on his first BB.
Don’t tell me what to do.
great AB by Aramis
Rodrigo always kills the Brewers.
Rodrigo!
Happy panda.
This is a great start. Gallardo might be the best pitcher in the division.
Piling up pitches for Gallardo. 18 so far this inning.
Piling up pitches for Gallardo. 18 so far this inning.
Better than the 3 per inning by Narveson last night.
I embellish, of course, but it sure felt that way.
This is a great start. Gallardo might be the best pitcher in the division.
Grienke?
Ramirez should’ve had a triple (dying laughing)
pena….sigh
Ump bailed out Gallardo there.
Gameday doesn’t think that low, inside strike Gallardo is getting is a strike.
Grienke?
Gallardo = 25 years old
Greinke is probably better (and the projections agree), but Gallardo is right up there.
Gameday doesn’t think that low, inside strike Gallardo is getting is a strike.
It was inside but it looked pretty good on the TV to me.
Fack.
That was a wicked slider.
weeks, prince & braun and then 5 replacement level players.
You almost think, given the fact that Counsell is a thousand years old, Yuni sucks, and Prince Fielder is a statue, that the Cubs would be better served hitting hard grounders all day.
WTF was that?
honestly this brewer team has 0 depth
Gomez, Counsell, Betancourt, Kottaras and Kotsay.
you will not win the central with that
coleman has a nice pickoff move
Quade: “Gee willikers, he was out!”
they had him picked off there
you know all this nice organizational depth we are supposed to have must not exist if we have to start James Russell
Prince Fielder is powerful. They should’ve pitched around. Feck.
why even pitch to Fielder (dying laughing)
ahh coleman. sometimes you just gotta remember they dont have anyone left after Prince
K-zone said that was a “kill me” ball. Jeez.
Yay platoon!
Prince Fielder is tearing the Cubs a new asshole in this series
mark kotsay with the rainbow
Yay moroon!
Boo auto-bunt.
Wow, Coleman almost beat that
Your Yay/Boo PBP style is innovative and out of the box, RC. It just might work.
at least we are making gallardo spend some pitches
Your Yay/Boo PBP style is innovative and out of the box, RC. It just might work.
Let’s see what happens.
the key for coleman is to not give up cheap runs to the shit part of this lineup
Fucking sac bunts. HATE.
This ump is a joke.
Nice snag by Colvin
Nice snag by Colvin
Perhaps you meant Fukudome?

(dying laughing), I forgot Colvin was in LF today.
another pena fail coming up?
Byrd walks again? Huh?
Oh, so I wasn’t hallucinating.
Rodrigo!
another pena fail coming up?
He’s not facing a LHP this time at least.
I wonder if Len and Bob said anything about this making up for Ramirez failing to turn the DP in that Brewers’ scoring inning. I don’t know because I turned over to the Brewers feed.
(dying laughing) at the Geo shift fail
64 pitches already for gallardo
Coleman’s giving up the gappers here.
2 walks for Byrd. Wonders never cease.
A double to Gomez. Really, Coleman?
jesus christ
Ah geez.
Not a good pitch.
that was inevitable
RT @rooftop_view Looks like the #Cubs best pitching prospect Trey McNutt just exited his first start of the year early with an injury.
Giving up a hit to Yuni should be an automatic no-dinner offense.
RT @rooftop_view Looks like the #Cubs best pitching prospect Trey McNutt just exited his first start of the year early with an injury.
Kosuke —> sushi + tempura
Nice walk.
The ump has basically forced the hitters to swing at that shit down and in because of his fucking terrible zone.
yeah he totally fucked up that Castro AB
WTF this strike zone. Who is the HP ump?
WTF this strike zone. Who is the HP ump?
Dale Scott. Does that mean anything?
ESPN’s K Zone had the second strike to Byrd way outside.
McNutt just left his game with an injury
Dale Scott. Does that mean anything?
Not to me. The usual suspects are West, Bucknor, Cuzzi, Winters, Hernandez, and Vanover.
So, in the space of 2 weeks, Cashner, Wells, and McNutt go down.
I guess someone should go shit in the dugout.
ok. now please remember carlos gomez fucking sucks and get him out
That was a nice changeup.
Anybody listening to the Smokies game know what happened?
Isn’t Gallardo a pretty good hitter? Why not have him swing away there?
Oof. Thought he might’ve gotten to third on that one. Gomez took an atrocious route to that ball.
Nice hit though. Ramirez is driving the ball today.
Rodrigo is fucking locked in today.
Isn’t Gallardo a pretty good hitter? Why not have him swing away there?
Brenly says he should be hitting 6th or 7th in this Brewers lineup.

I still can’t believe the Cubs are playing Charles Darwin Barney Fife over Blake Dewitt.
The ground shook when Fielder dove for that ball.
I still can’t believe the Cubs are playing Charles Darwin Barney Fife over Blake Dewitt.
Yeah, those deck chairs on the Titanic really need to be re-arranged. (dying laughing)
dewitt isn’t much either nate. at least barney can field. we haven’t had a good 2B since DeRosa
The ground shook when Fielder dove for that ball.
Too bad he didn’t bounce the ball over the wall for a ground-rule double.
also, chris carpenter hit 100 several times last night. He needs to be here now and f7 needs to be outrighted
F7 has 8 walks in 3 innings. you can’t teach that
WTF? Why pinch-hit for Fukudome now? What kind of bizarre shit is Quade pulling?
fukudome is hurt MO
dewitt isn’t much either nate. at least barney can field. we haven’t had a good 2B since DeRosa
i guess you’re right; I just thought Dewitt had some potential offensive upside. The Cubs offense is so bad, they need any help they can get, although I guess if Barney saves more than Dewitt adds, might as well play the Father of Evolution/Childrens hero/local Sherriff
also, chris carpenter hit 100 several times last night. He needs to be here now and f7 needs to be outrighted
F7?
fukudome is hurt MO
What happened?
So Quade lets the pitcher hit, then eschews the platoon advantage and pinch hits for his starting RF. I expect to see many more episodes of overmanaging from Baldy McGrindy this year.
Kosuke tweaked a hamstring or something on that nice catch he made last half-inning. That’s why Soriano was in.
I was kind of annoyed with the auto-bunt though.
F7?
Samardzjia = spellcheck = F7
that last circus catch he made in RF. he overextended his leg. looked painful
F7?
F7= spellcheck= jeff samardjuh
whoa, MO some wild shit there

He stretched out to make a catch in the last inning. He’s probably okay, I think it’s just a precaution.
Samardzjia = spellcheck = F7
Gotcha.
Okay, that was pretty dumb. Coleman had less than 85 pitches thrown, he probably wouldn’t have thrown that much more against the bottom of the order. If he was going to be taken out, might as well have used a pinch-hitter instead of doing the auto-bunt. Fuck.

Awww, that could’ve been a triple Byrd (dying laughing)
Nice hit.
i took another look on my DVR and I still can’t tell for sure.
(dying laughing) @ the irony of Byrd’s frustration with Ramirez’s first pitch hacking.

Aside from the asshattery and casual racism, here are the three things that most make me want to massacre most Cubs Fans:

…Let’s see what happens.
For the record, the awesome Cubs bullpen has blow two wins so far.
There is no such thing as an awesome bullpen entering the season. Never has been and never will be. They’re too unpredictable.
Byrd was just trying to reduce the team GIDP rate.
Why would you send Byrd?
it just might work
Send Byrd with power guys batting, on deck and in the hole…
it just might work
(dying laughing)
Berselius was right about this series too. The Cubs could easily have taken two of three as he implied, but they lost two of three as he said they would.
I’m predicting the Cubs lose 2 of the 3 to the Astros.
Why is it wrong to trash Hendry for not keeping Hamilton?
Because the agreement had already been made for the Cubs to take cash and pick Hamilton for Cincy. Keeping him would have not only been highly dishonest, but likely detrimental to Hamilton (his entire support structure was set up in Cincy), and probably in violation of some transaction rule. Hendry never really had the option to keep him, so bashing him for being honest is fucking stupid.
Joe, the Cubs never had Hamilton. Not for even a split second. He was never ever on the Cubs in any way, shape or form.
The Cubs sold their draft pick to the Reds and the Reds told the Cubs who to pick for the Reds.
I was sitting around online going crazy like a schoolgirl when I heard the Cubs drafted Josh Hamilton and all his ridiculous potential and I was very upset to find out they had traded that pick before they made it. It happens. Teams do it every year, but the Cubs never had Josh Hamilton.
Once the Cubs sold the pick, Hendry could not keep him. He was Reds property the moment he was drafted.
And let’s be honest about the Cubs, the media and their fans for a moment too. A guy like Josh Hamilton wouldn’t have passed the smell test and would have been immediately bashed. We would have seen articles and comments about Dumbass Jim Hendry just signed a drug addict who had hadn’t played baseball in a couple years. Hamilton never would have been given a chance. Not by the Cubs, not by the media and not by the fans. He was a player with a checkered past and those guys don’t work in the Cubs system.
As much as I was happy to hear his name come off the board by the Cubs, I’m thrilled they had traded that pick to the Reds. I have little doubt that Josh Hamilton would be out of baseball and doing drugs right now if the Cubs had taken him.
Cincy was a great place for someone like Hamilton to play and then later Texas. No way he survives in a city like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles.
Cincy was a great place for someone like Hamilton to play and then later Texas. No way he survives in a city like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles.
Yeah, the way things have worked out for him is probably the best-case scenario.
I just refuse to fault Hendry for keeping his word, and I think it’s telling that many fans would rather Hendry have made himself into a liar.
new thread: http://www.obstructedview.net/chicago-cubs/articles/say-with-me.html
If the Cubs never had the chance to keep Hamilton, that’s one thing. I wouldn’t fault Hendry for being honest.
I think it’s a stretch, though, to say that Cubs fans would have bashed Hendry for picking a drug addict. Cubs fans are always looking for a savior, so I think they would have been ok with the pick.
But the bottom line for me is, if the Cubs didn’t have the chance to keep him, ok. But given that the team hasn’t produced its own stud position player in forever (Castro notwithstanding), it seemed like another example of the team not being able to recognize talent.
Yeah, the way things have worked out for him is probably the best-case scenario.
