I’m not watching the game, but if someone could explain how Rizzo hit an inside the park home run I would be super appreciative.

Pat thinks that if you ran the numbers, you would find that Joe Maddon’s teams have won disproportionately more long extra inning games than other managers’ teams.

    Why?

    Fun. Joy.

    SK,

This broadcast has been pretty bad so far. They were criticizing votto earlier for being “too patient.”

    I blame lack of sleep.

I decided not to watch this game because I’m still exhausted from last night’s marathon, and I missed a Rizzo inside-the-parker. Serves me right.

    SK: Funsucker. Joy disdainer.

Yeah, how much fun would it have been if they screwed it up and the Reds won? I like to think that you guys who wanted balls hit to LF are the funsuckers. (dying laughing)

    Rizzo the Rat,

You’re also missing the Reds’ pitcher’s bizarre croakies on his glasses that makes him look like he has an enormous rat tail

After this, the Reds go to Washington to face the Nationals, and then to Chicago to face the Cubs on the road. I almost feel sorry for them.

Pretty fucking fun, for a loss.

Might not feel that way if the Cubs weren’t 10 games up though.

In my opinion, that game was fun in large part because the Cubs won. If the Cubs lost that game, it would have sucked (a bit more than the average loss when you have a 10-game lead). They had a 2-0 lead that was blown late. Billy Hamilton hit a home run against Lester. His 2nd of his career. The Cubs bench was so thin that they had to have pitchers in the field. Winning makes that fun. Losing that game would sucked. It would have been 5+ hours of wasted time with the Cubs just trying to get a series win against a terrible team today on short rest with their number 5 starter going. I have a feeling if the Cubs lost that game you’d feel differently.

I’d feel a lot different if they lost it in the thirteenth, than if they lost it after all the wacky pitcher stuff. Even if they had lost at least we would have seen something you don’t usually see.

In the audio of the Duvall homer, I’m pretty sure the broadcaster was lamenting losing to a guy with a sub-90 fastball.

Speed isn’t the only way to pitch, man!

That’s true. It would have been less sucky to lose that game in 14 or 15 than after 13. It still would have sucked to watch that much baseball and see them lose, especially considering how poorly the team had been playing over the last 8-10 days.

    josh,

Yeah, you can be like Super Genius Professor Greg Maddux and use your big brain to throw 89 mph fastballs down and away and hit your spots within centimeters EVERY FUCKING TIME.

What tactics. What strategy. 9th dimensional chess.

Kyle has 110 pitches. I understand the need to save the bullpen, but this is pushing him pretty far, I think.

Well, I didn’t actually watch the game, so your argument is null and void. (dying laughing)

Willson is good at throwing out runners. (But why are the Reds running when they are down by seven?)

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Contreras start with Arrieta on the mound in a week or two. The Cubs best team is obviously with Contreras behind the plate.
