Kind of weird hearing Len on a neutral network. I keep wondering why he’s telling me things I know already.

anyone know why the cubs audio feed isn’t showing up on mlb.com? i can only get the pirates feed and the option where you can switch between feeds is not appearing tonight.

What’s kind of hilarious is that just about every person on this team has great season stats, and yet they’re clearly the worst team in baseball right now.

It’s like the whole team is Bryan LaHair.

    Smokestack Lightning:
No Cub should attend the ASG at this point. Take the whole week off.

The NL would be better off with them not on the team at this point. On the off chance for Cubs do win that 2nd wild card, it would be nice if the NL won next week’s game.

It’s nice to see Rizzo, Bryant, Zobes keep fighting, but it seems rather a waste of time at this point.

Eh, blow it up. Theo is a forward-thinking prez. This isn’t going to get better. Sell now and we can get some cool shit for the future.

Until this team shows serious signs of turning this around, no need to trade for anything. Rich Hill ain’t fixing this shit. Neither is Chapman.

Playing 31 games in a row with injuries to Fowler, Soler, and LaStella can’t have helped. I’m concerned about Arrieta (and Lester to a lesser extent), but getting a few days off will probably help.

Rizzo didn’t hit for the cycle, but it was almost worth it to see Marte misjudge it and jump for it.

    Perkins,

Yeah, I’m not too worried. It’s frustrating, but they’re a good team and they’ll win games. I think we all got a little carried away with how good the team might be. They’re good. They’re not great.

I know, I know. The brain says there’s no way a team this talented can continue to play this poorly the rest of the way, and the the ship will be righted soon enough, but man, this is as tough a stretch as I can remember for a team this good, and it’s the sort of stretch that makes you think you were imagining all the good stuff.

Theo has to be having 2011 flashbacks right now.

It’s definitely a frustrating stretch, but even if the Cubs lose tomorrow, they still have a bigger lead than gm’s infamous “five back rule.” I think with better health, they might have been a 110 win team, but I’ll settle for a division win and a deep playoff run at this point.

I’m also remembering Theo’s early season comments about a stretch where it felt like they’d never win another game. I’m wondering if he’s a time lord or something. (dying laughing).

The only things that have me legitimately worried right now are Arrieta’s command issues and Lackey’s descent into mediocrity. It’d be nice to see them sort those out.

What a fucked up year that was. Was it Lilly or Dempster that hurt themselves jumping over the railing?

Soler might head out for a rehab assignment soon. Per Maddon, he’s actually ahead of schedule, which is the first time I’ve heard anything timing related for Soler.

Still amazes me that the 2009 Cubs were in first place at one point in August. This team might still be in first place come August so there’s another similarity between these two teams. (dying laughing)

    SK,

We made it to a few games this year, but things have been hectic lately. The nuke plant I was working at is shutting down so we decided to pack our bags and move to Florida to be closer to our parents. Just got down here last week.

Yeah, and IIRC people were bitching that the Cubs couldn’t replace his production. (dying laughing)

Is there something in the atmosphere here that is causing the balls to rocket off bats like this? This is crazy.

Baez can be really fucking stupid at times. That’s at least the 2nd time he’s blown through the hold call and been out by 30 fucking feet or more.

I don’t think the Cubs had anyone in the bullpen, and Lackey was on deck, so there was little chance of getting any runs there, anyway.

I’m hearing that Jones initially sent Baez, but changed his mind after he had committed. So I don’t blame Javy.

The only Cubs catcher who should be allowed to throw to any base at any time during a game is Ross. They suck at it. (dying laughing)

    Rizzo the Rat,

Jones was sending him and then put up the stop sign. Baez ran through it. Jones deserves some blame for not recognizing early on that Baez would have no chance of scoring, but Baez does stupid shit at times. He does some things very, very well too.

    dmick89,

Ok. It seemed like it could be hard to track down off the bat, but when it was fielded quickly Jones should have known better. He was looking at the play, not Javy.

Maddon should bench Rizzo the rest of the year so he can finish the season with a .300 average.

    SK,

It happened rather quickly. It looked like it could go down into the corner, but once it was clear that wasn’t going to happen, I thought for sure the stop sign would be up. It wasn’t initially, which I think is crazy, but Javy saw the stop sign (at least I think he did) and he also saw where the ball was at. Let’s just say they both fucked up.

Good base running there by Russell. Baez would have tried for 2 for sure.

I’m not sure why a Cubs runner is trying to get into scoring position. They’re better off hugging first base and waiting for a homer.

Have we seen a dropped strike three screw us yet in this streak, or did they literally invent a new way to lose?
