But Neil ramirez gets DFAd and FedEx stays? What the fuck? I guess you gotta take the good news with the bad news but that seems like a bullshit move. Maybe I’m the only person that still has faith in Neil ramirez but surely there are zero people that have faith in FedEx.

I think the move tells us a few things:

    1) Montero’s back isn’t 100%
    2) Willson Contreras isn’t ready for the show
    3) Ramirez isn’t going to be the guy we want him to be in a time frame in which we need him to be

    aisle424,

I thought Ramirez was a guy who had a relatively high ceiling, but almost no chance of reaching it due to injury issues. I don’t have a problem with losing Ramirez, but to keep three catchers on the roster seems kind of crazy to me. So I think you’re probably right about 1 and possibly 2.

I didn’t read every word, so I don’t understand who replaced Ramirez on the active roster. What’s up with that?

    SK,

Matt Szczur was re-called and Ramirez was DFA’d. FedEx stays on the roster even though he sucks and the Cubs have two other catchers.

    SK,

I’m guessing that all managers like having 3 catchers on the roster. I’m not surprised Maddon likes it. I’m just surprised that Thoyer lets him have that many. I do think what 424 said is probably accurate, or at least some combination of it.

    dmick89,

Maddon has said he likes having 3 catchers. Unless he thinks that limiting catchers’ playing time makes them better, I don’t get it.

For what it’s worth, I think there’s a slight advantage for the Cubs in this because Maddon is so aggressive with using his bench. But it’s pretty much a penny wise pound foolish thing.

It’s the MLB the show announcing crew! They’re just as annoying in real life!

For whatever reason, FS1 is showing NASCAR, so I am enjoying Fox Deportes. Spanish is easier to ignore, though when I do listen it is as inane as anybody. Fortunately, I actually have to concentrate to understand it.

WTF, the dude just said Harry Potter out of the blue. Okay—it’s usually easier to ignore.

And Fowler hits a grand sla—

What’s that? Nobody was on? But didn’t Montero walk to load the bases? Maddon subbed Federowicz for Montero!?

On the brightside, Soler looked more than competent in left. So competent that Maddon didn’t put in a defensive replacement.

    cerulean,

Why would he put in a defensive replacement when his team is behind? The whole point of defensive replacement is to preserve a lead. If your team is behind, you want to keep your best hitters in the lineup.

There is an argument to be made that La Stella is a better hitter than Soler, and there are several defensive alignments that could be had without Soler in the field.

So, do you think Len and JD hung around after their only game working in SF on Friday, or traveled on to their next destination in St. Louis to spend the rare weekend off? (dying laughing)

 Just because something is your opinion doesn’t mean that it can’t be criticized or argued.
We’ve been down this road before. If you estimate or opine and people disagree, they’re going to point it out. It’s what blogs are all about.

It’s sort of stunning that after all these years running BCB, you struggle with that. Said without snark.

(dying laughing) at old time bcb commenters calling Alvin out on his same old ways, and he responds the same old way. (dying laughing)

    It’s not the disagreement.
    It’s the method of disagreement.

    Same people all the time.

But it’s all right now, I learned my lesson well. You see, you can’t please everyone, so you got to please yourself — Rick Nelson, “Garden Party”

JD probably is, but Len’s working with the radio broadcast.

I had a dream last night that included meeting and chatting with Jorge Soler. Only he was white and spoke almost perfect English in an American accent. I said “I thought you were Cuban and that you didn’t speak much English?” He explained that actually his mother was German which really helped him learn English so well. He then went on to address his early season struggles by predicting a dominant future ahead, like Arreita’s tweet from 2013.

There’s your first clue that this was all a dream.
