Cubs 9, Pirates 6 (9/17/15)

OSS: Jung-ho Kang and Francisco Cervelli feel the wrath of Cubs.

Three Up

1. Anthony Rizzo hit his 30th home run of the season to put the Cubs up 5-4. He tacked on a double and a walk and seems to be perhaps be emerging from his slump. Hopefully he is red hot for the next series.

2. Kris Bryant had his second consecutive great game after the horrible doubleheader. He went 3-4 with a walk and 2 doubles. That'll play.

3. Clayton Richard quieted down the Pirates after they jumped all over Kyle Hendricks, taking the ball into the 7th and driving in as many runs as he allowed (2).

One Ouch

1. The slide by Coghlan was clean, but still. It really sucks for Jung-ho Kang. No word on what the injury is except left knee, but it looked like it was possible season-ending. That's not good for the Pirates.

Three Down

1. Kyle Hendricks was awful today. He gets a semi-pass with the wind howling out, but whenever you allow a home run per inning, your outing is unsuccessful. It's pretty simple. The Cubs need to figure out the #3 and #4 starters if they win the coin-flip game.

2. Austin Jackson was the only non-pitcher Cub not to get a hit. He also left 4 on base. I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel here.

3. The announced crowd between the two Wild Card hopefuls was 28,228. Get your shit together, Pittsburgh. You have one of the top tier stadiums in sports, and two of the three best teams in the National League are playing. I don't care if it's noon; get to that baseball game.

Next Game

1:20 PM CT, Cardinals @ Cubs

Lance Lynn (4.38 DRA) vs. Dan Haren (4.74 DRA)

Just trying to mix it up?

Correct although it’s dumb. When it was all one word on LiveShyte it occurred to me it could be pronounced that way.

It also reminds me of Burbank, which is where Johnny Carson did his show from, and Johnny’s hero (as everyone knows) was Jack Benny.

133 comments. I’m no mathematician, but that’s a lot around here. Myles, we need a new post about posts and fanshots.

I am a mathematician, so you’re going to have to turn that 133 thing into Greek symbols for me to understand.

myles: dmick89, Interesting. I thought with him grabbing his left knee, it may have been an oblique strain or something.

If only they had an injury expert in the booth. He could rate women in the crowd on attractiveness when they're not talking about injuries too.

So Cubs just went 7-4 on an 11-day road trip, and that included 7 games against the two best teams in the league.

    They suck.

    dmick89,

Just when content blockers come to iOS to save me from those hijacking bloguin ads—you fucks go and change the site for the better. And you canned that livefyre bullshit.

You can imagine my disappointment—this no longer being the last cesspool of the internet that I frequent.

And then you post the classic Ryno gif, the one that makes me vomit in my mouth a little.

Yes, the Cubs are winning. Yes, no more taboola ads. But seeing that gif, I know this is still the same place I have grown to despise.

So fuck you and your damn hope monster. That is all.

You guys going to pick up some ads?If not, I’m happy to kick in a few bucks to cover expenses.

No ads. While Bloguin’s ads sucked, ads in general are a pain in the ass and more work than it’s worth. No matter how reputable the ad partner is, bad ads get through and it results in complaints about redirections and load time (rightfully so in most cases).

We appreciate the offer, but right now we’re not even entirely sure how much this new place is going to cost per month. We lost some traffic over the last couple years so I really have no idea what our server needs are at the moment. The hangup on moving away from Bloguin was a last minute decision to go with the same server specs we had before moving to Bloguin to ensure we didn’t launch the new site and then not have enough resources to run it. So we took an extra few days to migrate to the new server to avoid that. Now we’ll see where we’re at as far as our resource usage goes and adjust our hosting package accordingly.

Are those content blockers any good on iOS 9? My phone is jailbroken so I plan to wait until the next JB is available before updating. I am looking forward to trying them out.

If the Cubs and Pirates tie, head to head record is the tiebreaker, right?

If they tie for wildcard, correct. If they tie for division, false.

If Cubs sweep Cards this weekend and Pirates win 2 or 3 against LAD, then they’ll both be 4 games back of Cards with about 13 games remaining to be played. Surely it’s mathematically possible this could happen — obviously not if Cards are better than .500 rest of way.

I mean realistically it’s not going to happen. Can we agree on that?

    dmick89,

Is there more OV merchandise for purchase? The last t-shirt I bought is just about worn out. I can only wash my car with it so many times.
